Alden Park 2.0?

The group behind the recent renovation of the Alden Park has gone on a "buying spree" in the area. Given the nice job on the Alden Park, this can only be good news for the area.

Yes. The purchase of these buildings is a good sign.

Hopefully the improving real estate market in the Villages neighborhood will allow for the completion of the Whittier project, including the proposed retail on the E. Jefferson frontage.

Who knows? Perhaps improving sales and rental prices in the area can also bootstrap a fresh look at the retail center at E. Jefferson and St. Jean.

The Keane Building is one of my favorite buildings on the east riverfront. It was designed by William Agree... same architect as the Lee Plaza, and has many similar details. Sadly the Lee Plaza was built in the wrong spot! Had it been built on the east riverfront... it would still be going strong....

My girlfriend had wished this group would had purchased Lafayette Towers instead of Greg Jackson. He is doing a lousy job renovating the buildings. It was still drafty in her apt with the heat turned down last night with those so called new boilers that were just installed

Here are the plans for a typical floor of the Kean Apartments. There are only 4 apartments per floor, those in the east and west wings contain 2 bedrooms, the ones to the north and south have 1 bedroom. All apartments have cross ventilation from 3 directions.

The Hibbard Apartment building also contains graciously laid out, spacious apartments with 5 units on a typical floor. Every apartment has both a front and a service door and many have fireplaces. Every unit also has a dining room.



One thing that makes the Hibbard quite unusual, in Detroit anyway, is that there are several well-designed, 9 room, 3 bath duplex apartments in the building.
