New Detroit Historical Museum exhibit examines Belle Isle

Detroit -- An exhibit opening at the Detroit Historical Museum it taking a closer look at Belle Isle.


A grand opening is Friday night for "Belle Isle: Soul of the City," which runs from Saturday through Oct. 11. Tickets are $40 for the opening event, which benefits the group Friends of Belle Isle.


The exhibit is presented in partnership with Friends of Belle Isle. It examines the history and current state of the island park in the Detroit River that was designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.



The park features a conservatory and views of the Detroit skyline, and is a popular recreation spot.


The exhibit is included in regular admission to the Detroit Historical Museum, which is open free to the public this month.
