When assisting with the removal of the organ after AAA sold it back in the 70's all of the original drapes had been crated and stored in the upper dressing room area. Much of the artwork and furniture was stashed throughout the theatre in various rooms and under the balcony crawl space. One of the stage hands would deal on items, one at a time, during the days when no building manager was around. Whatever remained was sold off by Dumouchelle Bros. but I don't remember the date on that sale. It was not a sale on the scale of the Michigan Theatre contents back on 1965-66.

I was downtown last weekend going to the GLI and took the People Mover to get there, I just have to say how great it is to see lights on in the building. Work lights though they may be, it's really a contrast to the countless other empty buildings which are dark when the sun goes down. Looking forward to whatever is in store for this building.

With all eyes watching the goings on at the Broderick Tower and impending work on the David Whitney Building, I was wondering how things were going at the United Artists.

Workers still present and lights still on at night??

I walked by it the other morning on my way to Luci & Ethels. There were construction lights on on the first floor....but that's all I saw. At night I don't see any lights on anywhere else in the building, although my view is only Park side of the building.

I saw lights on in the second floor from the people mover Friday night after I left the auto show.

The second floor appeared to have been cleared of debris and clean. Unfortunately the p.m. moves fast enough that I couldn't make out much more than that. It's nice to see something happening there.

Actually, when walking by and looking up I guess that would be the second floor....dumb me!

Nothing much happening... the first and second floor have been in very much the same condition for the past 3-4 months... I haven't seen any construction trucks or anything since the yellow chute came down. The lights seem to be perpetually on in the two aforementioned areas.

was by today all the lights were on. At least four on in the front lobby, and several upstairs, as well as the flood lights...no one was home though.

Will post a photo or two later

You'll see work lights inside and perimeter storm lights all are on. Tried to get a shot of the dry wall on the second floor but it was too dark

Going on 5 months and no new development. Anyone know anything?

I can see into it from my place and I have not seen anything or anyone. It's just sitting and waiting.

Was at the Tigers game on Memorial Day and it looks the exact same as before.

Another 3 months and no updates...so strange there was all this secretive work, trucks going in and out, lights on, chutes, only to go silent?

I don't think that Illitch has the financial backing that Dan Gilbert has to get things done or the project is too costly to complete in a reasonalbe time.

My street prophets are whispering something about an Amway Theatre.

Hmm, so we have a recent sponsorship announcement and now an Amway Theater rumor, not to mention some renewed buzz about Temple Street from the Detroit News...I think some billionaires have been chatting here.

In the Temple St. thread somebody mentioned calls going out asking about "how would you feel" if Illitch were to build a 300m Arena/Residential/Commercial development in the area.

C'mon guys, give us some sort of announcement!

    Thanks for the update DetroitUA....

My take on this.... no announcements of any sort until land acquisitions are complete. Just remember the riverfront casino fiasco...

And remember Eminent Domain is no longer an option... there is no reason for Ilitch, along with possibly Gilbert, to put any cards on the table...

Does anyone have a diagram/map of the Illitch owned properties over there where a potential arena would go? I still think they prefer the Woodward site as opposed to the Foxtown area.

Aw, does this mean the lights on mean nothing is opening soon?

Just when I get my hopes up...

I doubt anything is opening there soon. But by the same token... it could mean that unannounced low key renovations are continuing...

I think it means the building has some power and the 1st floor lights are on.

It would be nice if there was some artwork on the windows. Since it's still sitting empty and all...

You're probably right. If there are no work trucks there in the daytime, then that would likely mean no work is going on in the evening.

I hope we can see something soon. Still think the tower would make fantastic condos and apartments. I would definitely live there.
