Default Hamtramck EM Making a big mistake!

    This is absolutely horrible!

Call or email Cathy Square, Hamtramck's emergency manager and tell her your thoughts!

They want to steal the kiszka! Three thousand bucks won't pay the utility bill at Hamtramck High for one month. Find some other city owned vacant lot to give them free, just to generate some tax revenue. There is no shortage in Hamtramck. Lest we forget, they wanted to bail a few years ago!

To be honest, they should have bought the property first. If they do not own it, they are squatting. Kowalski not too long ago was going to move out completely so to see them expand is a good thing.

It is too bad for the farmer, but the farmer does not have the right to farm land it does not own. The City has a chance to turn the property into something that is going to produce tax revenue, something it does not currently do. A financial manager is being a responsible steward in this case.

A popular decision, maybe not. A decision that will help the City? No doubt.

DetroitPlanner, I'd agree with you if the plan was to buy the property for more than a "buffer zone."

The farmer was using the land with a city issued permit. At the time the city could not sell the land due to the settlement of garrett et al lawsuit. All city owned properties in the south side were frozen. Once the sale ban was lifted the farmer offered to buy the land-$2,500. was trumped by $3,000 and had no avenue to counter.

Thanks to all the efforts of concerned citizens the sale of Hamtown Farms has been stopped! All properties will be auctioned giving the farmer and others interested in property in Hamtramck what they had been asking for from the get-go, a clear and fair process to acquire the land.
