Incentivizing retail in downtown Oakland, California by giving free rent.

This is happening just across the bay from San Francisco, a stone's throw away from some of the very wealthy Bay area cities and towns that are the epicenter of the tech revolution.
On top of which the city is home to some important regional HQ's and a step from UCBerkeley, one of the best colleges on the planet.

I am just waking up to the fact that...
Fuck stadiums!
Dont repopulate downtown with no stadiums awready, just give free rent... Now why didnt I fink of that before???

I know Pontiac has taken similar approaches to vacancies in its downtown, and it appears to have worked pretty well. No, Pontiac is far from a hotbed of life and culture, but some interesting new businesses have opened up shop.
