Default Metro Times Goes on the Block

So reports Bill Mcgraw on Deadline Detroit

Hopefully it gets picked up by some party that will continue its great tradition.

Print is an endangered medium and the MT never established a strong web presence equal to its physical presence. Wish I had the $ to buy it.

I agree, and I would say that it could put a void in area journalism, except the Detroit Dailies are a black hole these days anyway.

Lowell, you don't need to buy it. You already operate the best forum for keeping up with pulse of the city: it's characters, politics, entertainment and development.

Sorry, but I enjoyed the irony of this statement from the article:

Few details were available; employees were told not to speak to the media.

The last owners really crapped the paper up and filled it with nothing but ads for head shops and strip bars. The reviews of new places became sparse as did the special editions or investigations. In addition, many of the places where it was distributed [[bookstores, dive bars) have long closed and no one looked for other distribution opportunities.

I work at WSU med school. There used to be a Metro Times box on Canfield and I read MT every week. A few months ago it disappeared. I'd like to keep reading but I'm not going to go way out of my way to track it down.

I've only ever read it online. Started reading it because of the investigative reports. I'd hate to see it go.

I wonder what the asking price is...

Buy it Lowell, Ask your forum for monetary support. It will be there. I would so miss it. I am cheap as hell but would certainly contribute. You could run it no sweat.

There is a inside rack by the medical school cafeteria.

Ironically, out of the three publications claiming the word "Detroit" [[News, Free Press, Real) Metro Times decidedly had the best coverage of the city.

I've been using their website a lot for events and happenings. They've always been a good resource for a city boy. Real Detroit is a joke. Real Royal Oak would be more appropriate. The dailies can't even be called that anymore since you can't get them delivered daily anymore. I spend most of my Sundays cleaning my kitchen after vomiting everywhere from reading Rochelle Riley and Mitch Albom, since that's all the Free Press is anymore. They each need a beat down to get their egotistical lives right.

Agreed. The same with Deadline Detroit.

I also like that both Metro Times and Deadline Detroit presents both sides of the issues [[I.E. Darrell Dawsey and Curt Guyette) versus just the suburban/big money POV.

In most cities the "metro" giveaway newspaper is supported by advertising from strip clubs, massage parlors, escorts, head shops, botox joints, and cosmetic surgeons.

Unless it has been removed there was MT/RD/WSU paper racks perpendicular to the hallway with all the class photos on the way to the cafe, I will confirm tomorrow when I audit the spot and try to give a better description.

Rack is still there and a fresh bundle was just placed there. Like said before the rack[[s) are just before the 1st floor main cafe entrance to the right of the hallway with all the class composites @ Scott Hall School of Medicine.

They stopped delivering the Metro Times to the 2nd floor Fisher building about 6 months ago. Just Real Detroit and whatever random paper people lay there now.

That will change tonight and from now on...If I don't see any tonight when I go down there...adjustments will be made.

I like the strip club ads because thats about as close as I can afford to get to a strip club these days.
