I wonder how much, if any of detroit's real history will be referenced as the series goes along? Especially "modern" [[post-1965) history.

‘Low Winter Sun’ makes Detroit even more depressing

First episode was real good!!! No cheesy refrences, I can tell it's going to be a legitimate show.

What's up with all the brits getting the lead roles in these shows?

IMHO there are way too many of these shows that seem to glorify criminals.

i saw it...wasnt paying particular attention, as i was at a friends house, and i dont really care for TV. i cant say i was impressed at the plot or anything about it. i was mostly just looking because it was filmed here.

i was also looking to see if i could see myself, because the scene at the Delray boat launch was filmed while i was mowing the grass on the other side of the fence, haha. they actually asked me to "stop making noise" while they filmed ...

Fort Wayne warehouse 2-A also makes an appearance in a different scene

I watched the first 30 minutes and got bored. I'm sick of police dramas and it's unfortunate Detroit now has had two.

The main actor played the same part in the original British version, which was only a two-part miniseries.

Looks like they are reaching for mood of The Wire. The ending was a grabber. I'll give them another shot maybe next week. Wonder if they'll show any beautiful scenes from the city later on. Are the thugs patterned after White Boy Rick?

This was originally a British show. They're just remaking it for the US market with some of the original actors. [[Many of your favorite US TV shows are remakes of British show.)

Detroit 182 with a little more "grit",if its even possible. Lots of ruin porn, empty streets and an Internal Affairs guy thats been on every cop show since the 1970s.

Lennie James [[the lead black detective) played Sol in Snatch and Morgan [[the neighbor) in Walking Dead. He's awesome.

The Internal Affairs guy on LWS is played by the same actor who played the late Gale Boetticher on Breaking Bad.

The actor who plays Agnew [[lead white bald guy) was in RocknRolla and Kick-Ass.

I've only seen one episode, but I didn't think it was ruin porn-ish.

Low Winter Sun. Sound's like another Detroit 187 crime drama to me. I'm not watching that show.

It'd be nice if Hollywood could produce something other than A) Cop Drama B) Firefighter Drama C) Medical Drama D)Reality crap. Originality has lost its meaning in that town, evidenced by the rehashing of movies that are barely ten or fifteen years old

I watched the first episode and it was decent. Read a couple interviews and it sounds like the more we get into the first season it's going to get interesting, so I'll keep watching.

Interesting premise: Two of the detectives are murderers who killed another corrupt detective and the Lt. only cares about getting to the new HQ. Wonder if anybody in DPD got a preview of the scripts? Good p.r. for the department, no doubt!

...do people still say "blind pig"?

  23. #23

    Default

I still hear the word blind pig used but mostly its "afterhours club"

Ima little confused. Is the dude who is starting up the blind pig [[Ziggy from The Wire) a cop who is dirty? Or is he just a thug?

Ill have to watch it again. I thought it was a lot of fun, almost a little to intense for me.

I saw the LWS film crew at the scene where they were checking out the house for the afterhours club, in Brush Park. A few weeks later I worked for National Geographic on their series Drugs Inc showing them around for the Detroit episode and they put in a shot of me on the steps of that very house. I was way off in the distance but still I thought that was pretty cool.

I thought the reference to the dream cruise was a little forced. But the Faygo in the background during the party store scene was subtle and clever.

I watched both episodes but just can't get into it...it's so SLOOOOOWWWW.
