    Default Why don't doctors listen

Without major details my husband, who is also a forumer, on DY is back in the hospital for the 5th time in 2 years.

Always some quick fix. Put on a bandage, Send them home. My husband and I have been together since 1972, married since 1975. I think I have a clue as to his situation.

    Drs do not listen.

I am a little hopeful this time that just maybe they are paying attention to what we tell them. I got several calls from drs after I left, really trying to pin down medical issues.

This is no pity party. I have done home hospice now for dear ones, 3 times. I am pretty strong. My husband is not bound for that great beyond, God willing.

    But drs need to listen.

I guess we're fortunate, Sumas. Our family doctor is an excellent listener and has always answered our questions fully. My urologist is likewise [[see him twice a year as a prior problem is pretty well resolved), and the surgeon who repaired my hernia last September was super [[as was his staff, who resolved a sticky insurance problem for me!) But in years long gone, I've crossed paths with some yoyos, too.

This is a great topic for a thread at this point in history. We'll be going through some changes.

Medical professionals are adjusting to recently-introduced office automation. Doctors are frustrated by it. That's to be expected during such a transition.

One troubling trend I've noticed is that doctors are increasingly focused on a computer instead of their patient. They should instead have a specialist deal with the computer while the doctor focuses on the patient.

An unrelated problem is where some doctors who base their prescriptions on theory override other doctors who base their prescriptions on empirical blood tests. This created an unnecessary problem for us. Go with the doctor who tests their theory. Be skeptical of a doctor who is too confident of their theory to bother testing.

Thank you Jimaz, my husband's dr of 20 maybe 25 yrs is caring. The system went from Bonsecour to Beaumont. Blood suckers, all about money. His dr hates that computer billing system.

Made sure my husband went this time to St John's. My rant came mostly because I have told Drs over and over what the health issues are.

My God, this time someone listened. All those other hospital visits were so useless.

Ron has Parkinsons, we know it is currently incurable. These other issues that don't relate to that.

Can't wait to get him home. Being together for decades, I feel empty if he isn't here. The dogs miss him too. They "dog" me everywhere.

This time they did listen but it still seems a money game. one script was !89 bucks. Guess what though, 8 scripts were written, only 7 filled, the serious important one got missed. He was told to wait to 10 pm to take it, not there. opened that bag of big bucks @ 10. like I said not there.

Thank you Zacha for hugs, they help.

I'm seeing more pharmacy mistakes lately too. People have died from such mistakes. Pharmacists are overworked. Tennessee recently opened two new pharmacy schools because of the shortage.

Now I double check everything I can about prescriptions, read the whole label, talk directly with the doctor if there's any discrepancy whatsoever.

THAT IS SERIOUS SMART. I have been lazy but no more. Ron got his meds but not thru the hospital. He is fine and appreciates the prayers people sent thru so many ways. He is home and doing well.

I feel thrilled that to date I take zero medicines.

sorrry I have to laugh a little, so many young posters and they must think why do these old farts moan. Old age isn't for the weak. Actually we are not that old but just a little challenged

I can only say that over the years, even if only on line, we made caring DY friends.

I do Primary Care out of State. Yep the Electronic Health Record means I stare at the Computer [[as well as Cuss it out, LOL) That, and the "patient centered medical home" have created more hassles. Also electronic refills, and Tons of disability and other paperwork forms. Not asking for Mercy, but Primary Care specialties like Internal Medicine and Family Practice have become VERY unpopular among physicians in training, hence the Shortage. I am single in my early Fifties so could cut wayyy back and even retire in a few years.

People only think that way until they have to deal with it first hand. We have had to deal with scrpits written incorrectly [[our CVS pharmacist caught it). A year ago my husband was in a very serious car accident and taken to Dmc/siani. What a nightmare that place is.

Thanks for your earlier welcome to the forum, hope your Ron is feeling much better.

Electronic refills, what a joke. I see my doc every 6 months, he e-fills scripts, it always takes multiple calls back and forth from me to pharmacy, pharmacy to doctor and back to me again. Add blue cross to the mix and 5 days later i will have my meds. Guess this thread needs to move to other discussions, sorry.

Why I left practice!! Returned to school, got a PhD, now
in .edu -- miss my patients, miss caring for them, but no
#$@ bureaucracy like insurance cretins to deal with ... so
much useless paperwork that only employs other cretins.

Don't kill yourself stretching out your time ... if you're not
happy, try something else. Life is too short for eating saw-
dust, which darkens the heart. Primary Care has become
unpopular for reasons we both know. In Florida, over 40pct
of internists are over 55. Many are "opting out" over EHR,
among other Obamcarenations. I bailed out years ago -
one of my smarter moves ... but my peeps miss me too.

Best wishes to Ron for happier days!!
