Most important part of this story...

    ...he made it back, swimming.

He didn't just cross the river, he crossed it twice.

He is the Windsor Renaissance Man.

My great grand-daddy reportedly did this back in 1910 or so, under ...ahem... similar conditions. And, according to my grandfather, such feats were apparently not all that uncommon during Prohibition. So, congratulations Mr. Morillo on reviving a fine Detroit-Windsor area tradition! It's amazing what a ummm... "driven" man can achieve, isn't it?

$25,000 worth of fines for a great story. I will commend the guy, that's a hell of a feat to swim that river, and to do it drunk is even more impressive.

Besides that, he had his irate mother to deal with.

“She just hung up on me,” said Morillo. “She said ‘you’re just so stupid.’”
    John Morillo, folk hero.

Obviously he needed to swim back to Windsor to find an unlocked bathroom. Drunk Canadians may stupidly swim across a very active river, but they have too much pride to piss in it or, god forbid, anywhere else besides an unlocked!!! bathroom.

This explains the numerous Border Patrol agents along the Detroit shoreline... looking for drunk Canadians swimming....

Does anyone else doubt that this gut actually made it across? I say no way:

    1 - He was drunk
2 - It was at night

He claims people took pictures of him. Morning radio said there is a video out there of him at the RenCen.
