Default Lower Homicide Rate in the last few weeks?

    Hello,

Usually in the hot summers, it seems as if the homicide rate picks up. Yet, even during our 100 degree days, unless WDIV/FREEP/DETNEWS were simply not reporting homicides, it seems like there has been dramatically less in the last few weeks. The DPD crime mapping data has us 8.5% lower than last year as of July 15, and it should be updated tomorrow.

People stay indoors in the cold and, consequently, they stay out of trouble on the streets. I ain't got any answers, but this is a worldwide phenomenon, not only in Detroit. We just need people to choose a more positive way of life.

Hmmmmmm, interesting. Well, the OP wanted to know about now, July 21 and his perceiving of why there hasn't been all the crime that usually happens more in the summer.

Anyways, you're right, French, it has been a "calm" summer. Usually there's a big car chase or shootout and maybe there has been but it hasn't been out there like it usually is.

It's been hot but until yesterday and today it stormed multiple times nearly every single day, unpredictably. Perhaps it disrupted some murdering.

Yup, we had a lot of evening storms this week so that disrupted the thugs. Its supposed to be sunny and cooler this week so expect more shootings.

Or perhaps more murders have simply gone unreported/undocumented.

The media actually has a story to focus on now?

Some of the EAA schools, [[the horribly performing ones) had an extra 6 weeks of classes added onto the school year. Kids in school maybe, not roaming about. Maybe? Maybe?

Maybe our thugs moved to the burbs.

Actually I've heard about quite a few thugs that moved to the burbs. I swear Detroit is now experiencing thug flight lol! Good for us!

LOL, It seems I missed the OP's point entirely. Let's pray for crap weather. The thugs will split to Hawaii. Make music, not murder.

Its not the kids in school I worry about [[other then the kids getting to school and back home). Generally kids as perps of homicide is very small anyways.

Maybe we are running out of people to murder, or at least the low hanging fruit have all been eaten.

yes indeed.... and if Detroit ever gets around to demolishing the 78,000 abandoned structures even more criminals will be seeking shelter in the burbs....Kinda like the Orkin man.. .

Other options include that it is [[1) a statistical anomaly, or [[2) that the new police chief has taken some minor steps that are reaping some benefits on the street.
