Default A Great Detroit Neighborhood Weekend

Saturday, Messiah Church hosted a Silence the Violence Parade, community event and picnic. Also on Saturday/ Sunday the Field Street Association, along with the Bogg Center And CapCorp had a community cleanup with houses painted, some 3 boarded, flower plantings etc.

All of this culminated in a birthday party for Ms. Boggs who turned 98 at a property adjacent to her home, on Sunday.

The party was phenomenal, the synergy wonderful. A neighbor on our block was brought to the party, she is black and in her eighties and she cried. She has been an area resident for more then 50 years and said she saw her vision complete. All ages, races and religions united in fun, community involvement and communion.

Awe.... thank you. Islandview Village is one thing but Field street is so steeped in history and good will. It wasn't deed restricted, so many seniors of color and off spring are still here. The history is rich. This isn't the forum to share detailed history of mostly small but significant lives. As an older community, we now have 4th generation citizens.

Yes it was a great weekend and did note the cops cruised it. Noise, fun and zippo violence. Forgot to mention the outstanding food.

Serious, We take little personal credit. This is such a nice little niche. Ron and I have had some health issues and folks on the street were going to help with back yard work but a near neighbor came over first. The work was astounding.

This certainly is the first community where we gave, volunteered and damn it, it gives back. So amazing! A grateful Sumas
