Ka-boom indeed! I'd never buy a Chrysler product anyhow but this is bigger than preference of cars un-purchased...
Ford vehicles have come a long way quality and appearance-wise.
I remember when the Taurus models back in the 90s looked like and drived like a hooptie. Now, they look and drive just as good as the Lincoln line of cars.
They're good about getting the recalls out now too.
They also recive high marks for safety features and customer satisfaction.
I believe Chrysler's argument is 2 fold: 1) they're disputing that the issue that's been identified is widespread enough to warrant a recall, and 2) even if it is, Chrysler is not obligated to recall vehicles of a certain age, which is a sensible rule for very obvious reasons.
I believe Chrysler also feels that the vehicles met all safety standards at the time on construction, and they should not be liable after the fact.
Aparently though, Chrysler in an announcement posted at Allpar....

has decided to go ahead with a recall of 1993-2004 Grand Cherokees and 2002-2007 Libertys.
