    Default One of the priciest homes to hit Metro Detroit market in years [[asking $15,000,000)

    You don't built this type of home with intentions to leave anytime soon. The listing says it was built in 2006. Six or seven years later the [[still incredibly wealthy) owners want out? Not good for Detroit or SE Michigan in general when people with this much money are [[still) leaving.

    It looks more like Eminem's house [[thus the reason behind the high asking price). He's been talking about selling that property for a while now. I'm probably wrong though.

    It's neither Eminem's or Karmanos' home. It's the one of the family members that owns RGIS, headquartered in Auburn Hills. 25k employees worldwide.

    Sorry but this is the nicest houses to hit the SE Michigan market in a very long time. A few years ago there was a Novi house with tons of acreage and a house at 730 Vaughan--THOSE were tacky monstrosities. This home is very tasteful and it's obvious no expense was spared. Outside of the President/CEO of an Auburn Hills supplier, I can't think of anyone with access to funds like this is that area.

    Doubtful. They do it because they can. And old school conservative folks believe a bigger house illustrates that you're a chosen one, closer to God. I'm sure someone on here is an expert in theology that can explain where that mentality comes from.

    The first of many, I'm sure. The Bloomfields and "hams, etc. are all getting pretty long in the tooth. Pretty soon, a lot of those houses are going to hit the market asking for premium prices, but the glut of those houses on the market will drive prices down quickly and the younger generation really thinks those houses are really yucky - nice place to visit but wouldn't want to live there.

    That area in the next ten years is going to be pretty interesting when those homes become within reach of folks that otherwise would never have access. I predict the 2nd coming of the great white flight: This Time It's Bloomfield Hills!

    Hate to break this to you, but Birmingham especially has been seeing the population shift for years, and it's not for the better, obviously. *Half* of all homes sold in Bloomfield/Birmingham after the auto and real estate crash were banked owned. The aging population of these two towns is only going to exacerbate the diminished landsape of once elite towns, as they all sell and retire in Florida, et al.

    Rich people build houses like this all the time and sell them without ever living in them. I don't think it says much of anything about Detroit or SE Michigan that this house is for sale... However, what the house ends up actually selling for will tell a lot.

    My bet is it will sell for $3.9 million.

    And there are plenty of people in Metro Detroit who could afford this place, if they wanted it. It's a shame you don't know them.

    All the time? How many houses are north of 20k sq/ft in Metro Detroit?

    Take a look at real estate news that covers high end properties. Rich people flip houses all the time. It's also become common for rich foreigners to park their money in American real estate to avoid taxes in their home countries.

    You can't really look at this one house being for sale and draw any meaningful conclusion about... anything. There are probably a hundred apartments on the market in Manhattan that are asking for more than $15M, but that doesn't mean rich people are fleeing Manhattan [[Corcoran's site alone shows 38: http://tinyurl.com/n4ztwrr). Now, if the house sales for significantly more or significantly less than ask, or if the house stays on the market for very short or very long amount of time, then that would be something more meaningful to talk about.

    I know it's been happening for a while. Let's not forget that with the Pulte pullout; it's going to exasperate things there, too.

    Heck, I might even consider it if the price was right. But not one of those crap - built homes. If you look close that area still has some remnants of older homes that still have that charm of the area's pre-Capitialist Pig Dog context.
