    Default WWJ transmitter demolished?

I missed it on a couple of drives out to Livonia, there is a building being demolished on eight mile in Oak Park.
When did they decide to tear it down?
I cant find anything on the internet.

Perhaps it wasn't. They may be thinking of an old building in Ferndale that was recently demo'd. If so, it was an old printing place [[my wife's grandfather worked there) that got pretty toxic. The Ferndale school district was looking into buying it just under a million for adult/alternative ed. They changed their minds when there was a dust up about it and who ever owns it knocked it down.

I love that old wwj building.

Would that be the old Ethel site?

^ I hope it wasn't that. That building should be declared a landmark. If it ever fell abandoned and the towers were removed, I would buy it for the right price.

Yes, it is. I just asked her; I was wrong it wasn't a printing place. He worked there as a plumber.

It's in Riverview on Sibley Rd at Grange. Definately worth a look if you get down this way. Its about 2 miles east of I 75 off the Sibley Rd exit. You can't get right up to the building because its fenced off. You can get pretty close though and can get some good pics.

I've also noticed they are clearing out a lot of brush and trees around the old WWJ building on 8 mile and Meyers. It might be getting ready to be torn down.

I don't get it. Why would you tear a building like that down?

I must have missed it because of the weeds and trees in front.

Yes, the WWJ building is still there on eight mile and meyers. The building that was demolished was on eight mile and pinecrest, which is about 3/4 of a mile east of the WWJ building. I just drove by there today.

I'd worry about the copper downspouts all around the WJR building! Is the fence electrified?

So to be clear, the WWJ transmitter building IS still there, it was the Ethyl Corporation facility that was torn down, right?

Yes, the fence is electrified, but I plan to tunnel under it to snag the copper.

The picture you posted is the one on Sibley, no? The original post is the one by the Coolidge/8 Mile tower. [[I think) I'm getting lost here.

More about the attractive Art Deco WJR building. It would be nice to see
it listed on the state or federal historic register.

I agree. That is a very unique, attractive, and one of a kind building.

Is that the same building on 8 mile and Meyers? It looks different. Maybe because the overgrown brush and trees aren't there. I also noticed on the current building the brown highlights aren't there either.
