Default Google to close "Michigan" office?

Is this just bs or is it real? And which office? Ann Arbor?

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/07...ayoffs_report/

According to the report, the layoffs have hit Google offices in Seattle and Kirkland, Washington as well as the company headquarters in Mountain View, California. Web Guild also says that Google is closing entire offices in Michigan and Texas

Well, so much for the "service based economy" theory.

I would find that surprising if they closed their Ann Arbor location since it's the adwords hq I believe. The McKinley Center sat vacant for so long prior to google, that would be unfortunate if google ended their stay there.

I was unaware this happened down here in January. I Googled it after you posted the information. Kinda ironic, huh?

Higher taxes per state is the main reason to consider closing...Thanks Governor Granholm.

Texas is supposedly very business friendly, so why would they close their offices here?

Many possibilities, density of customers, other costs, most importantly, a MORE business friendly state with offices in place.

Most likely lower profits & cutting costs. And again, they're closing all offices here, which so many believe is a Mecca for businesses to operate or relocate. It also appears that Washington & California will be hit as well.

Ann Arbor is not the only Michigan office, there is also one in Birmingham. I would suspect the Birmingham location more likely to close, because as mentioned above, Ann Arbor is the AdWords HQ.

PS, this is the articles source:

I wouldn't necessarily consider anything reported by this site as concrete fact.

The article specifies "entire" offices, not "all" offices.
