Sounds like ESPN was impressed. Their flight was delayed so they showed up a bit later, which was great because the party was in full swing.

After visiting possible venues around downtown Detroit Tuesday, ESPN officials said they were impressed by the city's bid."It was a great day," said Deane Swanson, ESPN's senior director of content strategy for the X Games. "We saw some great venues, some really good options for the X Games."
    ------------------
Kevin Krease and Garret Koehler, the organizers for the local bid, showed 15 ESPN officials around the city Tuesday and tried to make a strong impression with their grassroots campaign.
In addition to visits to Ford Field and Joe Louis Arena, the officials met with Bud Denker, senior vice president of the Penske Corporation, at the Belle Isle Grand Prix and Dan Gilbert, founder and chairman of Quicken Loans, at the Madison Building.
Then, to cap the night, ESPN's team stopped at a raucous party at Campus Martius with nearly 5,000 people, Krease said.
"It's just so impressive," Swanson said at the party. "The fact that this event was pulled together in a short amount of time, it shows the amount of passion this city has for hosting the event."

Can somebody clarify for me what the Detroit News article muddles here. Up for grabs is 3 years of games and 4 finalist cities. Does one city get all 3 years? [[Based on the writer's use of plural, "host cities" I presume not.) Or does a different city host each year, which would give us a 3 in 4 chance of snagging one year?

Detroit is ESPN's first site visit, and after more meetings today, the network's officials will visit other finalist cities Chicago, Charlotte, N.C., and Austin, Texas.
The network will announce the host cities for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 games next month.

DDave is right - it's one city for three years.

Detroit is competing with Chicago, Austin and Charlotte, N.C. to host a series of three consecutive Summer X Games from 2014 through 2016.

When ESPN officials evaluate Detroit, Chicago, Austin and Charlotte this spring and summer to see if the cities are worthy of a three-year X Games bid, social media following is expected to be a major factor.

ESPN is now considering Detroit among four finalists to host the Summer X games from 2014 to 2016.
