Default City Clownsil Postpones Demo of Arnold Home Due to Non-Detroit Contractors

This is utterly ridiculous. A microcosm of why Detroit's leadership continues to fail time and again. WHO CARES IF THE CONTRACTORS ARE FROM DETROIT!? Isn't it more important that families are safer? Can't we get some council members with a more regional point of view? The cheapest bid should be accepted, given the city's financial troubles regardless of where the contractor is. At least Kevyn Orr can override their decisions.

The Adamo guys on vacation? Or maybe this is too far from downtown?

INSANE! Two scrappers already died trying to pull down some steal beams there. Maybe a few dead bodies found there will unfurl the idiotic red tape! Tear it down NOW!

“I would like to see a list of contractors who actually bidded on this,” Councilwoman Brenda Jones said, bemoaning the failure to find a Detroit demolition company to do the work.............................. Seriously, "BIDDED"?

There are worse things than dead scrappers, but this intervention still sounds stupid. The city should have a bidding process that is transparent. If bidders get extra points for being Detroit businesses, maybe that is OK, but whatever the process is should involve the City Council extremely rarely. You don't want to have to redo the process because someone doesn't like the result.

Yeah, 'bidded' as apposed to 'strong armed' or the 'hook up'!

Gold! Probably not enough money for them to bother with it.

    I'm assuming that's also council-speak for a minority-owned business.

Yep, and now we see another entity coming forth with their eyes on the prize ala green... the 'power' has shifted. More to come.

Who is paying the million dollars for the tdemo and where did it come from,it was sold at auction is the buyer liable ?

He did say he bought it because it was cheap, taxpayers picking up the tab?

So I can start a shell demo company , buy cheap property at the auction then a little kick back here and there and pocket 800k ,nice little gig.

Anybody else want to jump in?

KEvyn Orr is going to impose whatever contracts he damn well pleases for the demolition of the Arnold Home, so why does it matter what Council does with this?

Nothing really ,but it does look good in the papers and maybe give some a false sense of security.

Not sure if it really matters though the aspect of trading one dictator for another other then one may be from there while the other is an outsider.

...or is this really something rotten going on here. Not the stupidity. But the political theatre. Are they really trying to force Orr to override their decision -- and thereby paint him as in favor of a 'suburban' contractor?

If that's the case, this is a brilliant move. Right up there with calling the EFM anti-democratic.

Who cares? It's exactly because of this kind of crap that I'm fed up with the COD. There's no "pulling together for the common good", just more puppet shows. Just get the damn thing leveled, or restored, or whatever you've decided to do with it, but do it already. More work -less BS = no EFM.

Just like Snyder and Orr have conspired to keep Bing and the City Council SEEMINGLY relevant until the federal lawsuit is over [[thus causing the charges against them to have less bite)?

If you've ever heard Brenda Jones speak, that's about as coherent as she gets. She panders to the union folk [[and I'm not anti-union) so she's been rolling around, impeding any kind of real progress when she can, for a while now.

We need exclusively city-based contractors like...Bobby Ferguson!

I don't think we should wait 20-30 years to get this done.....

How about contracting the ghostly Detroit Demolition Authority. They did a pretty good job around Eastern Market. And quick, too.
