Default invite gun manufacturers to Detroit...?

Reports are that the TX Governor is inviting them down to Texas. Our labor force and the machining skills here have got Texas beat... Maybe Snyder could invite some jobs to Detroit?

"Although PTR has not decided upon a specific relocation site at this time, over the coming weeks the company will be actively considering offers from states that are friendly to the industry. We hope to have a site identified within the next six weeks, and hope to have our move completed by the end of this year. We plan to keep our business partners informed on the status of our move throughout this process in order to affect a smooth transition".

Yeah that would help to change the perception that Detroit is violent and full of guns.

Metro Detroit would be a great choice for some of these manufacturers! Many of them already have parts machined and finished in this area and moving their factories here could increase their efficiency.

A move like that would be great fodder for the late night comedy shows.

But listen folks, when we make guns in Detroit we don't mess around. Check out this post by MikeM from the old forum.

Detroit needs more guns like a hole in the [[insert body part here).

The moniker 'Murder City' could apply to the export of instruments of death.

I think we this should pursue this opportunity seriously. The Detroit area has the tooling and know-how to do this. Some of the people currently working for these manufacturers might even move with the company.

I'm all for jobs for those that want jobs, but these would likely be mostly skilled trades and may even require background checks. That's all fine and good for those who have skills to adapt, but will any of it help the Boyz From Da' Hood that want to get out?

We are late with any invitation. Besides the governor of Texas, Paul LePage, the Governor of Maine, posted an opinion letter in this weekend’s Wall Street Journal.

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...pinion_LEADTop

Paul LePage: Beretta, Colt and Magpul—Come to Maine
I will never sign anti-gun legislation that drives your business away or infringes on the U.S. Constitution.

    Some quotes from his letter:
“As a state that is fiercely protective of our right to bear arms, we will welcome you and your business.”

“Although Maine has one of the highest rates of firearm ownership in the country, we also have one of the lowest rates of gun violence. We are a safe state, and we plan to keep it that way. Even better, our dedication to protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners crosses party lines.”

“Beretta, Colt, Magpul and any others: In Maine you will find air, rail and seaports that can carry your exceptional products across the country and across the globe. You will find hardworking Mainers, and you will find a governor who is ready to provide incentives and guarantees that will make it attractive for you to set up shop in our state.

I will never sign anti-gun legislation that erodes the rights of Maine citizens, drives your business away or infringes on the U.S. Constitution or the State of Maine Constitution.”

I guess he wants their business.

Many of the positions are highly skilled, but others could be filled with on the job training. I have seen video of workers at Magpul in Colorado and there is a lot of hand trimming and inspection work that needs to be done. Making parts for guns is actually quite similar to making parts for cars, so there are already a lot of people and businesses here with that capability.

Maybe Shinola could expand into hand guns. Perhaps a classic 1911 or an ivory handled revolver.

If Smith & Wesson builds a plant in El Paso, TX or in Marquette, MI, or in Roseville, the murder rate in Detroit will not change. We should provide jobs for high skilled individuals that formerly worked in the automotive tool & Die trades.

Sounds like Maine has a practical , working idea when it comes to the 2nd. amendment.
They truly understand how it works for their statehood.

Works well in 90% of the geographic area of Michigan too.

I was too ambiguous. Whether its a gun factory or a teddy bear factory, Detroit isn't exactly the most business friendly place for large manufacturing.
