invite gun manufacturers to Detroit...?

Reports are that the TX Governor is inviting them down to Texas. Our labor force and the machining skills here have got Texas beat... Maybe Snyder could invite some jobs to Detroit?

"Although PTR has not decided upon a specific relocation site at this time, over the coming weeks the company will be actively considering offers from states that are friendly to the industry. We hope to have a site identified within the next six weeks, and hope to have our move completed by the end of this year. We plan to keep our business partners informed on the status of our move throughout this process in order to affect a smooth transition".

Metro Detroit would be a great choice for some of these manufacturers! Many of them already have parts machined and finished in this area and moving their factories here could increase their efficiency.

I think we this should pursue this opportunity seriously. The Detroit area has the tooling and know-how to do this. Some of the people currently working for these manufacturers might even move with the company.

I'm all for jobs for those that want jobs, but these would likely be mostly skilled trades and may even require background checks. That's all fine and good for those who have skills to adapt, but will any of it help the Boyz From Da' Hood that want to get out?

Many of the positions are highly skilled, but others could be filled with on the job training. I have seen video of workers at Magpul in Colorado and there is a lot of hand trimming and inspection work that needs to be done. Making parts for guns is actually quite similar to making parts for cars, so there are already a lot of people and businesses here with that capability.

If Smith & Wesson builds a plant in El Paso, TX or in Marquette, MI, or in Roseville, the murder rate in Detroit will not change. We should provide jobs for high skilled individuals that formerly worked in the automotive tool & Die trades.

I was too ambiguous. Whether its a gun factory or a teddy bear factory, Detroit isn't exactly the most business friendly place for large manufacturing.
