    Default Tiger Fans Trash Detroit

I must say, few love baseball as much as I, but I was kind of thankful to be at work to avoid the Hoedown Part 2 and all the wasted suburban assholes that come with it, to be perfectly blunt.

I just don't get why Detroit gets so disrespected - by both Detroiters and suburbanites. As much as people like to gush about how "nice" people are around here, I've found about maybe 10% are decent citizens with any sense of responsibility to anyone or anything but themselves.

Glad I wasn't around to see that shit. I'd probably land myself in jail for fighting somebody in an Inge jersey.

Years ago CAY caught hell because he made a statement about "suburbanites" coming into the City for events and trashing it out. @ the time, I had a parking pass @ Joe Louis Parking for work. Mornings after a hockey game, it was unbelievable what Joe Louis Parking looked like when I pulled in. There aren't too many Detroiters attending hockey games. "YEAH, DEEEEETROIT MFer!!!!"

I don't know why he caught hell for telling the truth. I witnessed a group of suburbanites throwing their fast food trash out of their car going down the freeway.

He caught hell because he was a black mayor in charge of, up to that point, a white City. He also was a bit rough around the edges, and right or wrong, didn't take a lot of shit from anybody. This rubbed a lot of white suburbanites the wrong way. Having had first hand experience with his statement, I agreed, and still agree, with what he said.

How do you know they were "suburbanites"? Did they have an "I love Royal Oak" bumper sticker.

I'm not trying to say this kind of behavior is ok [[because it isn't), but I think you're all being overly sensitive. This is what happens when you cram thousands of drunk people in a small area. Take a look at the fields where fans tailgate after any college football game... it looks just like this. The difference is likely that other cities and college campuses are probably better/faster about cleaning up the filth after. I've seen people pissing in the parking lot at Pine Knob plenty of times. Do you think they have some deep burning hatred for Clarkston?

My friends from the suburbs and I were walking downtown yesterday after the game. We were all appalled by all the garbage left behind. It's common courtesy to clean up after yourself. Everyone knows this!

You're right, I think, to an extent. However the difference here is that people actually live and work within a few feet of where these hooligans are barfing, pissing, and littering. There doesn't seem to be an understanding or respect for that. It would be as if someone parking in a subdivision in Auburn Hills and threw their garbage and bodily fluids everywhere. It simply wouldn't be tolerated because of the location.

The difference is that when Detroit gets trashed by a large group of visitors it is shown on television and everybody looks & says "what a shithole." When Pine Knob is trashed by a large group of visitors nobody puts it up as news and points a finger. Even if they did show it, the same people that see a McDonalds bag on the ground in Detroit and talk about how bad Detroit is don't seem to view it the same when it is outside of the city limits.

I am in no way defending the slob tiger fans, but if these lots are charging $20 per car to park they surely can afford to pay someone to pick up the trash afterwards.

Time to move the stadiums to the burbs!

I don't really think of where I live as being that close to the ballpark, but the shitheads were out in full force dumping trash all over my neighborhood. I can't wait for Mike Ilitch to build his tax-subsidized hockey thing even closer to me.

Hah! No need to be oblique here... perhaps it was because they were white which while not a water-deduction in all cases, it's not unusual to assume such in a city that's 90% black.

Take the casino's too! No just joking... moving the stadiums to the burbs would be a problem for the city and the burbs!

If Bing had any sense and humility for the CITIZENS of Detroit, he'd respond the same way Young did.

Since this did happen on a Friday, he probably didn't get the news until the end of the office day.

So I'll give him a week to publicly make a statement putting these rednecks to shame.

If he doesn't, then I'm ripping him a new one.

Just for the record, I don't think that sort of behavior is a local or regional thing.

They were suburbanites. A Honda Prius with about 3 or 4 lily white passengers headed north on I-75 after leaving the Casino, Tigers or Red Wings game. They were from the burbs, trust me.

I agree with old guy. It's an Opening Day thing. It's amateur hour, with all manner of drunk clowns run amuck.

No, but do you think drunk futbol hooligans in those places don't leave messes behind? Mix lots of alcohol and a big sporting event and people are gonna act the fool.
