    Default Detroit Night on AI

Sorry if this has already been posted. I'm not a big American Idol follower but Last week was "Music of the Motor City". The video is 1 1/2 hrs, but early on some interesting Detroit videos and stills. VERY good performances too.

Was it all Motown? I get sick of that. There is SO much more to Detroit music than Motown and Aretha, from John Lee Hooker, Marcus Belgrave, through Hank Ballard and other early rockers, through the 60s Detroit rock scene etc etc. up through techno and rap.

Certainly was a nice touch for their Detroit show. Keith will get a lot of props when he stops in Detroit this summer!!

Not completely Motown. But Motown music is probably the most well known and Smokey Robinson was the mentor for that week's show, so most of the singers chose Motown songs. [[Also the singers are given a list of songs to choose from, probably due in part to rights and royalties, so they are always limited to some extent in making their selections.)
