    Default Independence Day 2009

Thank You, to all of the forum contributors who have served their country in the armed forces and in the peace corps.
Political talk from politicians is cheap. Those who have walked the walk are the ones who have kept this experiment going.
    Thanks, people.

    Please bump or sign on....

Happy Fourth of July to all that served or were families that served...but serving our country comes in many forms and for that we all are touched by the day to day strength of our country...Also remember our countries strength also lies in it's diversity and different cultures brought together for a dream that is bigger than politics.

May we stay free of foreign lobbies and influences...and work to adhere to values that have been at time elusive and at times actualized in our constitution.

and may we all have a burger, a beer and enjoy the fireworks in Detroit's Tiger Stadium...

Celebrating the original independence on the cusp of a need for another similar revolution in support of liberty being stolen by collectivists.

I very much give them credit and encourage everyone to engender the spirit of freedom that motivated them to provide American's with our Independence and prosperity which we must again reclaim.

I don't claim the sky is falling, I claim the economy is falling...and it is.

Excellent post, Mjs. I doubt you'll hear a credible response, just more propaganda and tired rhetoric from the right.

Using Inauguration Day as a starting point, unemployment was 7.2% . After the Wall Street bailout, Porkulus, and the $645B earmarks bill, the unemployment rate is 9.5% ; a 32% rise in unemployment under President Obama - and he's only just begun. Actually, I blame much of this on the previous administration but to be consistent, if Obamatrons want to take credit for a stable stock market, they should also take credit for the the rise in unemploymnet.

I heard an Obama spokeswoman on NPR this afternoon suggesting the need for another stimulus package. I guess the last one has been sort of a bust. I would have thought that all the hope generated by borrowing so much from China would have juiced the jobs numbers a little.

Biden denied the administration wants it. Are you sure they weren't discussing Warren Buffet who agrees with you that the first package was garbage? "Our first stimulus bill ... was sort of like taking half a tablet of Viagra and having also a bunch of candy mixed in ... as if everybody was putting in enough for their own constituents," he said. "It doesn't have really quite the wall that might have been anticipated there." He had lots more to say.

I was just being facetious by the way on the Dow. I think the economy is effected by so many things, the President is the least of Wall Street's concerns, but ccbatson just had to keep going there.

So easy...markets are not that reactive, they are proactive. Therefore, 1-2 months prior to the election, when it became evident that Obama MIGHT win, markets reacted. Recalculate with this FACT in mind and your conclusions will flip.

BTW, GWB had a heavy scewing from 911 to consider, Clinton was riding the low taxes of the preceding administration for a while, and was not nearly the radical economic socialist that Obama [[like FDR or worse) is.

I seem to remember it being pretty reactive the week the Bush Administration yelled that the entire world market will collapse unless we get $700 billion to the US banks as of yesterday.

No...prior to that, as I ellucidated, the markets saw it coming with the earlier bank collapses.

You have a typo. The correct spelling is hallucinated.

A few banks collapsed and only people watching CNBC were aware of it and CNBC was saying the market could handle it. Bush's people went to air in full panic and the selling and runs on the banks erupted which immediately froze the credit markets.

Did you even look at the market activity surrounding those initial collapses? Do you think that successful people in the industry turned a blind eye and didn't immediately adjust to protect their assets and jobs?

  22. #22

Are you saying the market is reactive?

    Proactive and only secondarily reactive.

I'll take that as a Yes. So, we are in agreement that the market reacted to the GM bankruptcy as it pushed GM losses onto other corporations.

No way to know, I presume you mean the auto buying market, and numbers are way down across the board as it is for the economy in general.
