Middle Eastern? That will be news to the folks in Europe....is undergoing work to become the next branch of Bucharest Grill, a Middle Eastern restaurant on Park Avenue downtown.

Looks like it could go either way. Bucharest IS in Romania, but if you read the write-up for the Bucharest Grill, they say it's "Middle-Eastern".

Romania is a member of the European Union.
They probably figure since their signature dish is shawarma, and people in our area probably have more exposure to middle eastern food, it made sense to market it as such.
For those that may not be familiar with Bucharest Grill, this write up from the Freep a year ago will give you a good idea of what you're missing.
Bucharest's owner and Romanian native Bogdan Tarasov created the sandwich, says manager Farrok Sabeti, who is Tarasov's brother-in-law. "He just put together the things he likes to eat, and over the years, he just perfected it," Sabeti says. [[In case you're wondering, shawarma is popular in Romania, according to Sabeti.)
