Thread: Hung

    Default Hung

HBO's latest comedy series, "Hung", is set in the "D". The pilot begins with shots of some of the worst parts of Detroit, the train station, Tiger stadium going down with a sympathetic narration underneath. There are also shots of MGM casino and Harpo's so the image of Detroit isn't all negative.

It was Motor City Casino, not MGM.

Never heard of this show. The name makes you assume it's about large scrotum sacks.

It actually is. I believe it is about a down on his luck guy that turns to being a male prostitute.

    Sounds like the city council.

I can't imagineanyone would pay to sleep with any member of city council.

Huh? The Hamtramck ice cream stand is not one of the worst places in Detroit. Also, Harpo's is actually in one of the worst parts of Detroit, so I'm guessing you were being sarcastic on that one.

Here's the video to the opening credits: http://www.hbo.com/events/hung/opening_credits.html

Wonderful show. Good acting. Great plot.

It really doesn't impress me, but it airs between True Blood and Entourage, so I have to watch.

Watched the first two episodes. Liked the opening and the local color of that. But that's really as far as anything truly local about the show went. The rest of it could've taken place anywhere, and really had that sort of generic, suburban anywhere, TV California-ness about it [[with a lakefront somewhere, a high school, and what looked like a house in Hamtramck standing in for the "anywhere"). The show itself seemed disjointed and overreaching for effect, the premise pretty silly and unlikely, and overall it really didn't do much for me. I don't much like the very bland actor [[Thomas Jane) who plays the main character Ray [[with the big...). And I thought Anne Heche as his ex-wife was terrible, and actively annoying.

A quote from the show, "a good cock is hard to find."

    Amen to that, sister!

Or, you could invert that and say: "A hard cock is good to find." Either way, it works as a premise for the show.

I really liked it, and thought it was pretty well thought out. It shows a down-on-his-luck guy who has nothing to lose, and decides to market his crank to whomever would pay for it. This could be a long [[no pun intended) season should he end up with a couple of nymphos, a transvestite, perhaps, or gay for pay- gee, the scenario's are endless!

Should be interesting to see how much of the city is filmed throughout the season.

Here's an interesting story about the downside of the tax credit thing [[the downside for L.A., that is)...it mentions that "Hung" filmed three months in Calif., two months here:

Didn't see the episode but from the opening credits it doesn't appear to be dissing Detroit.

I've watched it twice and don't plan to waste any more of my time watching it.

I think this is gonna be another HBO series winner like Entourage, Californication and Rome. I hope we get more series in the "D" from them.

I think Californication is on Showtime. Anyways, I really wanted to like the show but the writing is just so stunted, it is hard to watch. Hopefully they can turn it around- even if the premise of the show is a little lame Detroit looks great on film.

Knowing HBO they will probably get it sorted out then they will cancel it. Am I still bitter about Rome and Deadwood, two of the greatest series ever, you ask? Yes. Yes I am.

I'm really hoping that it will take off once they are done settingthe basics of the storyline. I've enjoyed both episodes so far, even if they were a little slow.

I've kinda liked it so far, though I wish they weren't 30 minute eps because it seems like just as things start to get rolling the episode ends.

Still, I've found that the first few eps of ANY new show seem to kinda suck. It just takes the writers a while to get a feel for the characters and settings they have to work with. I hope it starts to pick up soon enough that it doesn't get cancelled.

I'm trying to figure out how two attractive people [[Heche and Jane's characters) supposedly produced such fugly kids. were they supposed to be adopted?

I like the kids in that show. Hallalueh for once they used people that look normal instead of the typical SoCal tummy tuck breed.
