Depends on your idea of fun. The outdoors is one of the main reasons I'm still drawn to Michigan. Northern Michigan is where I could happily spend any vacation time.

I dont remember seeing any good food or shopping on the Enterprise but maybe Spock's pointy ears are cute to you. No fat people on the Enterprise.
No crime, no traffic, no car insurance, no city services, a huge registration tax on the NCC-1701, but no gas tax. I think it runs on palmolive dishwashing liquid, but I might be mistaken.

What do you want to do that you can't do here? I asked this question to somebody else on here once complaining there was "nothing to do" and never got an answer. We have movies, sports, museums, theaters, concerts, casinos, outdoorsy stuff. What's missing?

Michigan has some good laws but I won't say which ones 'cause we don't need this legislature to try and take them down.

We have some beautiful country, vast stretches of water which does need our attention and care, wonderful state and national parks, pristine beaches, clean rivers. Metro Detroit has world class symphony, art museum, zoo, tons of automobile history venues, the Henry Ford for a real overview of our past. Henry Ford wanted to preserve history as he knew it and collected all kinds of artifacts of daily life which you can see and learn how great granddad took care of things around the house and what he did at work.

Our agriculture is strong, we have the biggest bean crops, sugar beets, mint, and more. We still have the UP State Fair.

There is lots more. The truth is, local people hardly ever do things that tourists do when they come here. I guess familiarity breeds contempt.

I had a four paragraph reply typed up, but somehow it vanished.

I'll keep this one simple. If you don't like it here there are 49 other states to try. My guess is that you won't find what you're looking for by moving.

I'm not sure about that. My best girlfriend moved to W. Virginia right on the Ohio River a couple years ago. She absolutely loves it. Small town, beautiful river and mountain views, beautiful state parks, friendly, extremely low crime [[they don't talk about it on the news all day) her car insurance is about 400.00 for a year of full coverage, lower cost living...

we'll see... it's me but metro detroit feels opressing right now! and I don't see it changing soon....

Seems like your issue may be with Metro Detroit/Detroit and not Michigan in general. There are 100's of small towns in Michigan that offer much of the above [[All except the mountain views

I've been retired for 5 years. My average pension has been taxed, and my healthcare premiums have doubled. Rick Snyder is out of touch and his proposals are killing the middle class. I thought the Republicans claim was they are the "anti-tax" party? Increasing the gas tax and vehicle registrations, combined with the highest insurance rates in the country, some people won't be able to afford to drive and that will be sure to doom this state. They could have found other solutions to fixing the roads, instead of putting it on the backs of the middle and working class. Only the rich are going to be able to live here. As for the comment on post #6, nobody cheated the state, I earned every bit of my AVERAGE pension and for it to be taxed is B.S. regardless of your opinion. They need to stick it to the double-dippers and people whose pensions are way over $100,000 per year. Short term, with the Republicans driving the bus, this state is in deep trouble.

Every other kind of retirement income, except social security, is taxed, why not pensions? Some states even tax social security. About a dozen states tax pensions as full income.

38-39 states tax all or part of pension income. Up to 85% of Social Security benefits is federally taxable, depending on your other income [[phase in for single starts at $25K of other income and is at 85% at $34K+, regardless of income type, married is $32K & $44K+). 14 states, including mine, tax up to 85% of Social Security mostly because they base state income tax on federally taxable income.

@ the height of his campaign for the Presidency, Mitt Romney said he was a self made millionaire. It was pointed out to him that other tax payers might have helped by paying taxes to help build roads, bridges, infratructure, etc.
