Any Witnesses to the Wildings, 02/09/2013?

Channel 4 reported on their eleven o'clock news about a spree of violence reportedly churned up by a group of teenagers on what appeared to be a random rampage.

They had some ridiculous imagery of cops speeding around downtown on slick roads with relatively heavy traffic, and interviews with employees of some of the establishments affected by these events.

The video showed a few take-downs by officers in front of a store...it was brutal stuff, but from all descriptions it seems these kids earned any bruises they took. IF the cops got the right folks. Hoods and blue and black colors.

It seemed the police had sufficient force to find at least a few of the perpetrators.

We decided to not go to the Blast tonight, did anyone happen upon any trouble at American Coney Island or any other establishment, or on the streets last evening?

F-'em, they didn't get enough of what they deserved. Those clowns just undid what it took 5 years to establish. The people that were attacked and got in their cars and left, they won't be back. And the people who saw the video, they won't be coming down.

And folks wonder how Pine Knob usurped Cobo as the premier concert venue. Roving gangs of black youths in August of 1976 rushed the turnstiles at Cobo and beat patrons at a Average White Band Concert, there were gang rapes on the sidewalk out front ... Judge Gregg Mathis was one of the leaders of the Errol Flynns who beat people with folding chairs.

I think those kids were sent there to scare "outsiders". I know. I know.Maybe I'm just so tired of this racist "us v.s. them" bull that I've been hearing the past few weeks that I'm quite loopy.

From my reliable source who was there last night, after they rampaged through the stores, they took off for the transit center. A couple of officers were hurt.

I can only equate it to a stampede of while animals trampling on the good citizens who are trying to enjoy what little left Detroit has to offer.

There are people who will not venture into the city under any circumstances. There are people who will come into the city only for big events such as ball games or festivals like the Winter Blast where they deem the situation to be safe. This will change some people into that first group.

Just wait until this makes national news. They eat stuff like this up with a whipped cream and a spoon.

Its been a long time since I have heard about the Flynns. If I remember they were the Earl Flynns. We used to laugh about how ignorant they were. I am glad the judge has been able move beyond his past.

These teenager punks should've been grateful for the continued governmental and corporate disinvestment in their neighborhoods and enjoyed the congenial atmosphere in downtown that the redirection of funds away from their neighborhood has contributed to.

I watched out my apartment window last night, as 15-20 people wandered in groups around the Transit Center, closely monitored by two or three police cars. But I didn't see anything really happen. A little later, a Detroit Police Department bus, escorted by five – six police cars went west on Bagley, obviously heading for a mass arrest site. But I heard or saw nothing further.

Clearly they are the true victims. Next they should take their flash mob to Midtown. They were probably upset because they couldn't write off their mortgage interest on their tax returns.

But they'll be glad to accept any given excuse. Meanwhile back to the neighborhoods were the joy continues, only momentarily suspended ala the downtown deversion.

It's already happening in Midtown, just not on this scale. Woodbridge has suffered in recent weeks too. I'm sure it's becoming a trend amongst the youth to tear down the nicer areas of the city. The places they feel they're not able to enjoy or don't feel welcomed.

When you spruce up a few select parts of town and basically tell the rest that they need to get the hell out, what do you think might happen? That's why Bing has been so slow to tear down blocks. Where do the remaining people go?

Good point. I live Downtown, and spend a fair amount of time in Midtown. Both of those areas are well-policed, the streets are kept smooth and clean, and the signal lights and streetlights all work properly. But it appears that all the money is being spent in these areas, because if you go out into the neighborhoods, none of the above is true.

I can't believe I'm reading this. Why don't these juvenile delinquents go to school and get jobs and become productive members of their neighborhoods? My aunt lives at Warren and Chalmers. Her block is destroyed. She does her part by maintaining her property and paying taxes. I should instead tell her to incite a riot downtown and destroy small businesses. I hope Dan Gilbert has a change of heart and moves back to the suburbs and take his light rail with him. They don't want investment downtown, fine. Pull the plug. I'll do them a favor by never going downtown again to Tiger games and the auto show. In fact, I'll start going to more Piston games just because it's in Auburn Hills. Speaking of the Pistons, I'm sure this will go a long way in luring them back downtown.

What's probably in the works is that Dan Gilbert's creating a private police force strictly for downtown. That's probably why he purchased controlling shares of Greektown Casino [[revenue to operate it). It could be the upcoming perk Gilbert's using to attract retailers downtown.

As for the teenagers, who can blame them? While I'm not excusing what they did, the people they're supposed to be looking up to for guidance have more less said fuck them. So they figure an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, given how hopeless their futures seem.

These flash mobs have also been happening in Chicago and Philadelphia if you've been paying attention to the news. Expect the trend to continue and even become worse in Detroit as more cuts are imposed on the neighborhoods while downtown's growth continues subsidized.
