It says we are living in a dying city with incompetent governance and specifically focuses on the Belle Isle deal as a microcosm of what's wrong with Detroit.

I think it glosses over some of the intricacies of the lease deal but overall, can't disagree with most of what it says.

Generic critique with an obvious right-leaning slant that I didn't think was too bad until he brought up that dumbass idea about selling Belle Isle to be a free enterprise zone. Any critique of Detroit that mentions that idea as a viable plan of action for Detroit is even more silly than the city it is criticizing.

    from the article...
This month, it was discovered that Barrett Jones, a full-time consultant for the Detroit Water and Sewage facility earning $139,000 a year, had a second full-time job at $135,000 a year as public-safety administrator for the city of Flint, which is 70 miles away. He has resigned from his Flint job but still works for the city of Detroit.
And you get to keep your job too!

Too bad that the National Review reporter didn't note that DWSD is no longer under control of the City of Detroit. And had Mr. Jones been a civil servant, he, like all city workers, would have been required to report any outside employment.

Jones and the guy at D-DOT who was hosting a talk show in New York State and running for office in New York, are the tip of an iceberg of "consultants" and "contractors" swooping in to feast on the corpse of Detroit.
