    Default Cooking classes in Detroit?

My friend and I are trying to learn how to cook. Does anyone know of a good place to learn basics as well as some general cooking? Thanks!

We'd like to learn some kitchen basics and meal ideas and how not kill people with raw meat. Just basics for home cookers. Neither of us learned when we were young and we're getting too old to not know how to do some of the basics.

Thanks for the Holiday Market idea. I'll check that out. We life in downtown, if that helps.

HFCC in Dearborn offers cooking classes as well:

Whole Foods also has cooking classes, but until the Detroit store opens, that'd be a drive.

I'm sure WCCC offers culinary classes, granted that's a lot more $$. Another option would be to check out YouTube, I guarantee there are tons of cooking tutorials online.

Don't take it personal, but cooking for "dummies" would be a good bet... Here's tips online, and/or you can buy the book.

Honor & Folly in Corktown has cooking classes sometimes: http://honorandfolly.com/cook/cook.html

If you can't find a basic enough class, you might want to try looking on youtube for cooking basics videos, you should be able to find something useful there. Good luck!

You'll be surprised how well you do with youtube. You and your friend could have a cooking party with youtube help. I also want to learn from some great old timers... soul food basics like corn bread & sweet potato pie made from scratch...
