Resources for tracking down former Detroit businesses

I see it happen on DY all the time, somebody asks about a building's history, and somebody seems to have it.

Usually there's a reference to some documents or directories listing the name of the business and it's address.

So, as opposed to just posting an address for someone else to look into it, how about sharing your research resources?

How would we do that? Have strangers come trampling through my home to my den to thumb through a directory?

Not everybody tramples,and if you have really good coffee that may not be a bad idea.

I have a whole separate system filled up and that contains Detroit and that is from only 2 years I can imagine the wealth of information some of you have stored,takes hours just to somewhat try and organize.
