The rotogravure section of today's New York Times has a great essay describing Conner Avenue Assembly where 150 staff members assemble a dozen of the new Viper's every. They have also posted an informative video of the operation of that factory.

$49,500 for a base Corvette, but I think the comparo vs. the Viper would be the Z06 [[$75,600) or the ZR1 at $111,600. The SRT Viper clocks in at about $95,000 with the GTS at $120,395. Both out muscle the letter Vettes by a wide margin

SRT does not have a detuned version of the Viper. That's where the price comparison faulters. The base Vette gets you a 6.2L 430 horse V-8 with 424 ft. lbs. of torque. The base Viper gets you a stemwinder of a 8.4L V-10 with 640 ponies and 600 ft. lb. of torque. To get that much oomph in a Vette, you have to go to the $111.6k ZR1
