Default RoboCop model on the way, but unveiling pushed back

The assorted pieces of RoboCop’s torso, legs and other body parts necessary for the final mold — all based on an exact model by San Francisco’s Fred Barton Productions — are expected to be shipped from Vancouver to the Motor City by mid-January.

Organizers are targeting spring 2014 for an unveiling.

"We’ve seen pictures of a lot of those parts as it’s done and it’s amazing, the detail down to the little lines in the helmet," said Walley, a filmmaker and board chair of Imagination Station, the nonprofit that set up the Kickstarter page that raised more than $60,000 for the statue’s creation.

The crafting of the statue by the world-class Venus Bronze Works in Detroit could take up to a year. That would push the unveiling to spring 2014, when it would be warm enough to hold an event that could attract visitors from around the world, as well as actors and filmmakers from the original "RoboCop."

The final location of the statue is still being weighed. Although Wayne State University’s business incubator Tech Town originally was mentioned as the probable destination, Walley said that options are now being considered both in the downtown area, where tourists are most prevalent, and in neighborhoods that could use some attention.

I almost forgot I supported this idea. I didnt realize $70,000 could get this much work done. How tall is it going to be? Also very curious where its going to wind up. Its said it will not be on the beaten path, Gratiot and The Cut sprang to mind for some reason.

If you're going to put it anywhere, u should put it at Downtown Police Headquarters. It would become a inspiration in morale to all the Detroit Police that serve us everyday.
