Default Chicago's Chatham neighborhood: Any Thoughtful Lessons for Detroit?

A fascinating article in today's NYT about Chatham, a black working class South Side neighborhood grappling with economic hardship and the intrusion of poverty culture. The 2010 robbery-murder of an off-duty cop who was also an Iraq War veteran galvanized the community, but can the residents overcome the powerful negative forces of crime and poverty?

Detroit has a modest number of neighborhoods that reflect the community involvement and positive social fabric of Chatham. Maintaining this kind of "glue" is vital to keeping neighborhoods intact.

The video attached to the article is worthy viewing as well.
