Ok, prize won, you guessed the reason behind my name.....every time the Miss Smirnoff passed the crowd in Watersworks Park, I remember the fan's yelling & raising their drink. Back then, I thought the big bottle of vodka on the tail-fin was actually pretty cool.....[[still do)!

Still my favorite summer activity in Detroit, attend the hydro races every year!

My parents joined the Detroit Boat Club in 1964. We had according to Sports Illustrated the best view of any venue on the APBA schedule. Definitely one of the better places to see a good wipeout! From 1964 to 1984 when my parents left the club my father took thousands of pictures of the boats plus other venues we visited. When he passed away in 1990 my mom threw all them out without telling me or my sister!!

Sure would have liked to seen those photos.....never had the opportunity to watch from the Boat or Yacht Club. Sat & viewed from the Belle Isle Bridge in 1974, excellent view, especially when they ran the 3 mile course & the hydros turned very close to the bridge.

    Here is my latest project....

The year for that photo was 1976.....when the hydro's raced in Detroit [[6/27) that year, the race was postponed until after 7:00PM due to whitecaps coming out of the west. Miss U.S. driven by local Tom D'Eath won the windy race, dueling Atlas Van Line driven by Bill Muncey. It was a very-long day.....the entire street of Parkview Drive was "one big party" & the hospitality of the home owners was overwhelming, a good friend of mine kept his Chris-Craft Catalina on the Parkview canal back then.

Do you remember when the Detroit News included the weekly pictorial in the Sunday news & the writers, authors, journalists, etc. elaborated on all of the positive events & activities happening in the Big D.....I have this one below!

Several full-page advertising listings for Federal's Department Stores, my family shopped at the Federal's store on Grand River.
