Thanks for the link MSUguy! Now I just read this article... and in it it mentions that the 12 million+ is NOT being taken from the DPS fund... but from the entire state education fund... does that sound about right??

If that's the case... the DPS isn't out the + or - $12 million... but only its' fraction of the entire state fund... does that sound about right??

If this is all true... then the real impact on the DPS [[assuming the now shrunken DPS student count is now only about 5% [[or less?) of the entire state school population [[more if charter schools are included)... so the final impact on DPS would be less than a million... does that sound about right??

IF all of this is true... then the republican majority of the House/Senate, which do NOT represent Detroit... is NOT taking $12 million+ money [[from the DDA) that would have gone to the state, and then returned to local districts school systems... and instead... letting it stay in Detroit for Ilitch's use... does that sound about right?

And that's just the tip of the iceberg....
That's incredible to me how dumb people in management can be. Very few existing private sector businesses operate this way. Who does their research? I deal with an operation and budget on a small scale. The thing that I don't understand is this stadium money is going to be taken out of education funding? How do you justify spending THAT money, to fund a stadium? I don't see any correlation there.

I wonder why Ilitch’s operation can’t simply put the co-funding of the stadium up for bid? Surely there are some wealthy eccentrics out there [[i.e., China, Russia,Bahrain) who would love to get involved with American sports commerce.

The irony is, when Comerica Park was built, Mrs. I -- the member of the family with the real tight purse strings -- wouldn't allow Mr. I to put up so much of their assets as collateral. No domestic bank would go near it. As a result, they had to create a syndicate of foreign banks to fund it, and they were allowed to use revenues from the taxpayer funded new parking structure as collateral.

Or the wealthy eccentric down the street. The "engineered to amaze" guy.

It's sending money to Illitch that would otherwise go to schools. Given the language, how are people coming up with other scenarios?

    There's a problem!

Democrats in the Michigan Legislature will block Illitch's state funding for his precious "Little Caesar's Palace!" After most the Republicans in the legislature voted for the Work-to-Right Bill and Gov. Snyder, the Nerd signed it into law.

It ain't over until it's over... this is IMHO just a gambit... I think that Ilitch would like to build closer to the Fox... so he's playing one site off another... still.

This location figures in with what was discussed in the past, along with a straight shot down Temple to Motor City Casino...some sort of "transit connector" from the Woodward Light rail which Dan Gilbert now states is one he "3 R's" for next year [[Residences, Rail and Retail). And not to foget the proposed parking facility at the Masonic Temple which was mentioned earlier this year. So that leaves Cass/Peterboro/Chinatown as prime spots for redevelopment along with the options that developers have for the east side, i.e. Brush Park. This ties Foxtown with Orchestra Place and we finally will have a developed stretch of Woodward from Jefferson to the Blvd.

Jackson said a location for the arena and entertainment complex hasn't been determined.

But he did at least acknowledge rumors and speculation the development could go where recently purchased parcels of land sit between Woodward Avenue and Cass.
