Chemical Processing, which plates and paints small parts for the auto industry, is the last tenant on the sprawling property. On this cool September morning, workers Harold Jones, Fred Jones and Tim [[Tino) Wilcoxson are in a race against scrappers who already have pried much of the steel from this carcass of a bygone era.

Company owner Bruce Kafarski wants everything and anything of value removed before Chemical Processing packs up for a move to Madison Heights and leaves its 57,000-square-foot space to the scrap-metal vultures.

Kafarski and his employees are anxious to close up their Detroit plant. They say the property has become a dangerous, violent place.
