The visibility at the airport was below 1000' until 9 AM, which is below landing limits for some aircraft:

I've been watching this flight from Boston hold for over an hour, waiting for the visibility to come up:

That is a cool, lonely moan they sigh, isn't it?!

So-o creepy to hear, while gazing out at where the rooftops USED to be off my darlin's upper-level porch. Nice way to start the day...'twas kinda magical.

I no longer have to wonder what pilots do in their free time!

Just like when I used to hang at Lomas Brown's house in the 80s...every one of those dudes HAD to watch more and more football. They got a roar when I would tease 'em about it, and go to the kitchen with their wives...where actual conversation happened.

You'd think if the Lions from that time studied their opponents THAT closely, they'd have been more successful. But they studied...

A-Is that flight tracking online? and

B-Doesn't that entering and leaving US/Canadian airspace create an issue? Seems like they would circle over one or the other.

I love the fog. Such a treat.

Took this photo at around 2am on Woodward at Charlotte.

That would've been a beautiful pass over the downtown, if not for the fog.

I've never been on an pattern that did that...how often can you make an direct-over-top flight, MikeM?!

Fog isn't my favorite type of weather, but there's just something about it that makes it so beautiful when it does form.

The foghorns on the river woke me up this morning. Not unusual to hear them, but when I looked out the window I was surprised with how much fog there was.

I went outside with the intent of making a podcast of the foghorns for my blog. Had moderate success. Visibility was horrible as you see in the photos, yet some people were speeding down the road. I'll never understand how people can drive like that in the fog.

Yes, there are a few sites for tracking flights. That was from flightaware.com ... I was tracking ExpressJet 548: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/ASQ5480

I don't think so. A fee is paid to Transport Canada for overflying the country, but it's probably good for the duration of the flight. Anyway, the section of Ontario airspace south of Lake Huron is worked by the Cleveland air route traffic control center, so the border is seamless in that area. The holding fix they were holding at is on the border of Detroit's airspace.

Anytime you're flying in from the northeast and Detroit is landing to the north. Just this morning, before they started landing south after 11 AM:

    http://flightaware.com/live/flight/D...205Z/KBOS/KDTW

Flights usually fly over somewhere between the Windsor airport and Wayne State, but they keep you high [[11,000' ) to let departures fly under you at or below 10,000'. It's rare to pass downtown southbound below 7,000' in this configuration. When Detroit is landing south, and you arrive from the southeast, you fly up the river and then make the U-turn back south somewhere between the bridge and downtown: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/D...900Z/KMCO/KDTW This gets you lower over downtown, but still usually 4,000' or more.

I wait all year to photograph the November fog in Detroit! I've been a bit pre-occupied lately so this year wasn't quite as fruitful, but I still got a few keepers. If we're lucky we'll see some more before the temperature drops for good.

cool stuff Traxus. That hoop picture has just the right amount of eeriness to it. Almost post-apocalyptic.

The amount of fog that was out was great. I had not yet been by to see the station lit up so I figured it would be a good time to check it out. Here are the results.

I think the Canuckistanis and the USians pretty much share the same airspace congenially.

Cold night plus humidity with temperatures warming with the day equals fog.
