    THE TRANSPLANT SONG

    by Da Yoopers

I was sitting in a Detroit bar this guy he says to me
You must be from Canada, Newfoundland maybe.
No, I said, you’re slightly off, as I pointed with my beer
I’m from up above the mitten, this place over here.
I still wear my swampers and I drive my beat up truck.
I go up to Witch Lake every year to get my buck.
When I get back to Detroit all the guys they laugh at me
Two weeks at the deer camp and I’m speaking Yoopanese.

    Chorus:
I’m a Yooperman from Yooperland, you’ll find us everywhere.
I come here for the paychecks, but I miss that U.P. air.
I’m a Yooperman from Yooperland, I’m not down here by choice.
My heart is back in Yooperland but my ass is in Detroit.

My wife is from Mt. Clemens, she’s a troll from down below.
I dragged her up to Yooperland, she didn’t wanna go.
But when she saw the colors and she smelled that U.P. air,
Now she wants to quit her job and go to live up there.
I work hard for Henry Ford, I never miss a day.
I don’t like the city, but I sure don’t mind the pay.
My kids were born below the bridge, but their roots they can’t forget
We head north to Yooperland every chance we get.

    Chorus:
I’m a Yooperman from Yooperland, you’ll find us everywhere.
I come here for the paychecks, but I miss that U.P. air.
I’m a Yooperman from Yooperland, I’m not down here by choice.
My heart is back in Yooperland but my ass is in Detroit.

    Detroit City by Bobby Bare

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6dP1xLk4rQ

I want to go home, I want to go home,
Oh Lord, I want to go home,

Last night I went to sleep in Detroit city,
And I dreamed about those cotton fields and home,
I dreamed about my mother, dear old papa, sister and brother,
And I dreamed about that girl, whose been waitin' for so long,

I want to go home, I want to go home,
Oh Lord, I want to go home,

Home folks think I'm big in Detroit city,
From the letters that I write they think I'm fine,
But by day I make the cars, by night I make the bars,
If only they could read between the lines,

I want to go home, I want to go home,
Oh Lord, I want to go home,

I rode a freight train north to Detroit city,
After all these years I've been wasting my time,
I'll take my foolish pride, on a southbound freight and ride,
Go on back to the ones, I've left waitin' so far behind,

I want to go home, I want to go home,
Oh Lord, I want to go home.

Guess it depends what tourism demographic Michigan is going after. The Supremes. We have them? Ah, no. We HAD them 50 years ago.

Sorry, that song in the OP doesn't do it for me.

It's definitely no Sammy Davis Jr.

Charitable contributions aside, Kid Rock produces such terrible music. Of all the good music and musicians in this city, why is this hack the most well known? He's systematically lowering the standards and making mediocrity a goal.

Interesting song... but the best Michigan city song of all time has to be this one [[yes that's Jackie Gleason and Cesar Romero).....

Heard it yesterday and my first thought was that it was hastily put together. Not a great song at all.
Yay, he put Detroit in a song. Big Deal!
My question is "How can a guy who says who he's for the average blue collar worker support a tool like Romney, who would like nothing better than to see the middle class rot and let Detroit go bankrupt?"
    Contradictory? I think so.
    Not a fan of either.
You can fade away now Kid, you're done here.

I concur. Kid Rock was on the Obama train the first time, now he jumps ship to endorse the "snake oil" salesman. I could care less about him or his song.
    He's a turncoat.
