    Default Detroit Believers

I have found a lot of positive thinking Detroiters. They walk around smiling and saying nice things. I meet them at various events, some of them have careers working at place whose mission is doing great things in Detroit, some of them support the first group and some of them sit on the sidelines thinking positively.

The internet has been a big resource to locating the organizations that do positive Detroit, organizations such as Dig Downtown, D hive, Midtown Detroit, Avenue of Fashion Business District, Riverfront Conservancy, and many others. Stop roll call, will you call out others and lets recognize them.

There's even a website like Meetup.com where people form their own group with specific interest and they meet. I follow DNT, Detroit Drunken Historical Society, Detroit Indie Group, Detroit Lean Startup Circle and a few others.

I have attended this event at the Motorcity Casino Soundstage where people present their business idea in front of the audience and its telecast all round the world, [[what's the name of this event)

The Detroit Design Festival is huge and very impressive. Man, I was introduced to art galleries and installations that I didn't know existed.

And, there's this forum probably over 15 years old where some positive thinkers gather. You can post something and in minutes hundreds of people from around the world have viewed it and some second the motion or call for the question.

Also our print media are sources for highlighting positive thinkers, like Metro Times, Real Detroit, The New Monitor, and even Wayne State's South End. And, the 100 year old Detroit News and Free Press do some positive reporting.

Our Detroit television news stations do some positive reporting, Channel 7's Detroit 20 20, Channel 4's weekend segments and Channel 2's weekend morning reports which last hours, plus each got website links.

Maybe being a beaten dog, gave rise to a mean dog who is taking bites of the underdog to become the big dog.
[[Did I write this, I got to post it on my fb group Detroiters at Heart and blog, strongdetroit)

Forgive me for the plug, couldn't help it.

I know you said you are self-employed but you should consider starting a Detroit Welcome Wagon office if there isn't one already. If there is you should work there. I think that the city has an office of visitors and tourism perhaps they have an opening. Apply!!!

We started Purchase.org to help local Detroit area businesses, save money for Detroit area consumers and raise money for Detroit area charities.

Basically, we just took the Groupon/LivingSocial concept and flipped it on it's head. The problem with those "daily deal" sites is they squeeze business owners and make it so that they only make pennies on the dollar for deals that they run on the site. Plus, the people that buy the deals have more of a bargain hunter mentality, then actually trying to discover great local businesses. We overcome that by letting the businesses run deals that they can't lose money on.

The unique thing is how we raise money for charities though. Roughly 10% of every deal goes to a charity in the Detroit area, at no cost to the consumer. We partner with the businesses to factor that 10% into the price. When somebody buys a deal, they get to pick their favorite charity, then we make the donation at no cost.

We're just getting the ball rolling with it so I'd love to get some feedback from fellow Detroiters to help make this idea work. Sign up for free and check it out. We normally send out around 5 deals per week so if you see something you like you can get a great deal on it and help raise money for a great charity for free!

Thanks for the job tip but I haven't worked in 25 years. I don't call being self employed work since I love it so.

However there is a visitors welcome stop, it the D hive on Woodward across from the old Hudson's building, check it out and besides tons of information they conduct tours of Detroit.

My plans as you may know is producing my documentary, The Great Detroit? [[www.strongdetroit.net) to learn more and www.indiegogo.com/thegreatdetroitdoc to contribute.

However even after my film is releasing, I'll continue talking about the positive Detroit with my blog strongdetroit, website, and line of apparel branded Strong Detroit.
