Default Interesting story about owners of Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe

thought this was worth a read. What a shame that they had a break in on their first night open for business.

Also, does this place have a chance at success after Whole Foods opens?
A lot has happened since the ink dried on that lease. The previous owner of the building filed for personal bankruptcy, the basement suffered massive flood damage and there have been several break-ins, the most recent of which took place the first night they were open.

The only sign of the break-in is a slab of particle board replacing the window.

"An art project from C.C.S. students," Michael quipped.

This looks like the same Michael who manages the New Center Park and has some stake in Northern Lights lounge?!

If so, then this place will be a success.

Zaccaro's failed because a headstrong owner thought she could run it like her isolated Charlevoix location, right?! I went a few times, but couldn't stomach the pricing...it was as if she never heard of competition!

Damn shame, too, because some cool people worked there...at least at first.

Looking forward to this, Whole Foods will have nothing on them beyond name recognition.

    Cheers!

Thanks for connecting the dots!! I thought his name sounded familiar. But it's been a few years since I heard him speak about his New Center [[Arcadia) book so didn't recognize his picture.

This is what happens when there are enough police patrolling areas at night such as downtown/midtown. Wayne State police will patrol the area where WholeFoods will be. The Mayor and Council had made cuts that had made it so hard for independent small businesses to run a sucessful business in Detroit due to lack of police. YOBS will have to hire a night time security guard to guard the inside of the building at night. Shoot the first uninvited person who comes through the window or kicked in door. The boutiques that lined Grand River off of Broadway are having trouble with vandals trying to get into their place of business during the night. Why can't the city have police to patrol the area heavily during the night? I am beginning to wonder if this is done to small businesses by design
