Default A Transport CityPass to Encourage Tourism

One thing that I really wish Detroit had was a CityPass. I truly believe a CityPass would increase tourism in our area. It would show the people outside the area who say there is nothing to do in Detroit what we have to offer.

Just off the top of my head, I'd include:
    Detroit Zoo
    The Henry Ford
    DIA
    Detroit/Michigan Science Center
    Motown Museum
    Wright African American Museum
Belle Isle Aquarium [[if they ever get that open full-time)
    etc.

This was posted in another thread, but it is such an interesting idea, it deserves its own thread.

Maybe this could form the beginnings of a regional transportation system.

Are you talking about a pass for admission to ALL of Detroit's cultural gems, or a transportation pass? Clearly a laudable goal.

    Thanks, Jimaz.

I've seen such passes in Europe, but not under that tradename. I didn't know that a single company had control of so much of the market. So they must know how to get all the players on-board.

I love the hop-on hop-off double decker tour busses in Toronto and Chicago. Wish there were enough attractions to visit in the area that would warrant one of those. Most sites can be viewed from the people mover without having to get off and explore.

Off the top of my head: 3 Casinos, 3-4 stops on Belle Isle, 2 stops in the cultural center, a few along the riverfront; one each at RenCen, Mexicantown, Corktown, New Center, Campus Martius... That is 17 stops. What else would you need? You can add special stops for when there are games, plays, or conventions.

    Sounds like two proposals here....

A CityPass, which allows admission to 5 or so cultural or historic sites within a week of buying the pass...for a reduced fee.

A TransportationPass allowing hop on-hop off public transportation for a single price on the day of purchase. [[Other options possible.)

Both sound attractive for bringing in the tourists! We've used the CityPass in a couple big cities and really enjoy their ease of use and the selected sites.
