Default Detroit themed casino in Las Vegas

This is the old Fitzgerald's Casino in downtown Las Vegas. I haven't hit it yet, but will soon and give a report.

Fitzgerald's was one of the casinos owned by Don Barden who was HQ'ed in Detroit.

I still think Barden got a raw deal when they announced the Detroit casinos.

I have to agree with DetroitPlanner. Barden deserved a lot better from Detroit.

I've always done well at Fitzgerald's playing video poker, much better payouts than on the strip. Funny, we have a Las Vegas themed casino in Detroit.

Call me a weirdo, but why would you go on vacation to a place that exactly resembles the place you are coming from? I can understand the aspect of people not from this area going to it, but when I go on vacation, it's to a place that's going to resemble where I'm from the least possible.

Don't forget they have New York Casino there with scale models of several NY landmarks, and Paris Casino with a scale model of The Eiffel Tower?

Don't forget the friggin' weather. Michigan sucks in that department. We also have ghost towns, magnificent hiking trails through spectacular scenery, and mountains up to 11,800 feet above sea level within 50 miles of the strip, and clearly visible.

    Detroit has Mt. Elliott.

Here's yours truly, an hours drive from home. Beats Detroit graffiti.

I don't think that Barden got a raw deal... why would he have? He already made $100 million when he sold of his monopoly in the Detroit Cable Co., that he got from CAY. And he sure did give Archer hell for it, by funding the Call 'em Out Coalition to try to recall Archer. Archer's hands were tied by being force to follow the letter of the flawed casino ballot proposal [[2 of the 3 casinos would have preference by Atwater and Greektown groups). And Archer wanted to pick a Las Vegas powerhouse as the 3rd casino.

One reason we ended up with Kwame, was because Archer didn't want to deal with that nonsense anymore, and bowed out of a 3rd term.

Exactly, but those are symbols of prominence and are recognized worldwide. A hotel with "The D" painted on the side of it doesn't exactly scream cosmopolitan. I guess its all subjective, as is with most things. I just know the next time I'm in Vegas I most likely won't be longing for a coney dog from The D.

Which reminded me of that Coney Island in Henderson [[near Vegas) mentioned here but their website seems to have vanished.
