Default Any reviews of the Greektown Casino hotel?

I left Detroit in 1979. Fast forward thirty years. I am planning a visit in late July with a friend and want to play tourist for a couple of days before hooking up with family. So the best deal I can find on line is the Greektown Casino hotel...less than a hundred bucks a nite... the Book and MGM are twice the price. Seems like a good bang for the buck... any advice? Glad I didn't book the Ponchatrain or whatever its called these days....

the place got very bad reviews when it first opened, as they had huge rushes of people and simply werent ready.

The online reviews at places like tripadvisor, priceline, etc. have greatly improved.

I've had a few friends stay at the hotel and they all gave good reviews. It is in a great location, free parking, and great deals. The hotel has been completely booked for almost every weekend since they've opened, although many of these bookings are comps.

    I'd give it a try..

The rooms are fine, location is good, price is right,, lobby is very uninspired. I would book there.

Haven't stayed there but if your looking for a nice bang for your buck you can't go wrong booking the 3.5 star in downtown Detroit on hotwire. It's always the Double-Tree Fort Shelby and the hotel is awesome. The staff is great, rooms are amazing, the only thing is there isn't much of a view. But for usually under $70 a night it's a steal. I recommend valet though which is 20$, but if you hop on the people mover which is a block away, you won't need your car.

Only issue we had was because we went through hotwire we couldn't get 2 beds. But no worries, every room has 2 rooms. 1 is the bedroom and the other is the living room, that has a pullout coach which is a bed. Both rooms have flat screens as well. I really can't recommend it enough.

Our hotel is very nice and clean. We did get alot of negative reviews from the first weekend we were open. We sold tons of rooms, and the cleaning people quite simply couldn't keep up.....Things are much better now, as we sell out 4-5 nights a week, so they are used to it. I would say that for $99, we have bellmen, free valet, a beautiful lobby, 24 hour room service, and $10 in free play....it's an incredible value. No, the rooms in general aren't huge, but they are clean, well-appointed and modern.

PS, our double rooms may seem smaller to people, as we have two queen beds, which many aren't used to....

We had a breakfast meeting at the restuarant and the experience was very good. The waitstaff was friendly and efficient and the food was very good and fairly priced. The rock sugar stirrers were a novel memorable touch. Looking forward to the next meeting there.
