Belle Isle habitat projects celebrate $1.9M boost

DETROIT [[AP) - Two wildlife habitat restoration projects at Detroit's Belle Isle are celebrating a $1.9 million boost from the federal government.
The group Friends of the Detroit River recently announced details of work being done with the grants, which are part of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
The money comes from the Great Lakes National Program Office in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The work includes efforts to restore habitat for fish and wildlife at South Fishing Pier and Blue Heron Lagoon at the island park, which is located in the Detroit River. Officials say they will help reconnect the mouth of the lagoon to the river, as well as creating a spawning reef for fish near Belle Isle.

Thanks for posting, Vic. When I asked the construction guys at Blue Heron a couple of weeks ago what they were doing they were very vague and said they were going to get the water to run faster. Said they were going to be working there until December. I was also curious where the funds were coming from and your post also answered that question.
