    Default United Sounds Studio contact

Might be a shot in the dark, but I'm looking to track down a couple individuals still involved with United Sounds Studio in Midtown. Anyone know of a potential starting point? Perhaps any of the players involved in this video: http://vimeo.com/40040654

    Any help would be appreciated!

Allhype...Ed Wolfrum, who once was chief engineer at United Sound, can be contacted here:

You might want to make a post next door at www.soulfuldetroit.com Someone [[maybe moderator Ralph Terrana, who once operated Terra Shirma Studios) should be able to give you a hand.

How old is that link? It says the house is slated for demo...is that still the case?

That web article is about 10 years old. At the time the plans for widening I-94 were moving ahead strongly, which would have resulted in United Sound being demolished. The plans got put on the back burner.

Now that widening is back on the table, I believe it is again on the endangered list.

United Sound Systems is threatened by MDOT's I94 Rehab project.

Discussed in MDOT's 2004 Environmental Imact report:
    http://www.michigan.gov/documents/MD...6_118005_7.pdf

The good news is that the Michigan doesn't have funding for the project - at least for now.

The house my grandfather grew up in is across the street next to the motel. It will surely be lost if I-94 is widened.

Actually the I-94 project is not stalled, it is moving forward. The Van Dyke and Gratiot bridges over the freeway are going to be reconstructed for the futere 4 lanes. I would agree however that the segment by WSU would be very difficult to construct as it would mean the construction closure of Woodward, the reconfiguration of two freeway interchanges, and a great deal of issues with right of way purchases [[not to mention the replacement of WSU's parking structure). Essentially this means that this segment will most likely have to wait.

MDOT current issue is funding. Therefore the project will move very slowly and progress only after the current bridges get worn out and replaced by bridges that ouls accomodate 4 lanes in each direction.

The two bridges being replaced were funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:

A little off topic but I used to live on Medbury between McDougal and Mt Elliot. That whole area has been burning for years as if someone wants that property. The house I lived in burned and was right in the area that would be used to widen I94. I dont know if its just coincidence or what but Im still in in that area and houses have been burning down all over there for years.
One day I was checking out a vacant house on McDougal near the freeway and 3 young dudes came in and I surprised them, they said they were with the city but sure didnt look like it. Two days later the place was a heap of burned ash.
