Georgia Street Community Collective. Forum member, Cub, started the garden and the community center as a direct result of a conversation on this board.

A lot of folks here talk a good game about giving back, about making a change that matters, Cub puts talk into action and he needs help. His organization is a full on legit 501[[3)C non-profit and he does everything from fundraising to pulling weeds to delivering 135 backpacks to needy students to feeding the hungry.

He's the real deal and well worthy of support.

Crain's Detroit Business gives awards to best managed nonprofits every year. A google searh comes up with some past winners. But maybe a call to Crain's would get you a list of all past recipients.
