Default Suspected gunman has trouble trying to turn himself in

Witnesses said several people were attending a social event when the suspect, identified as a 36-year-old male, became upset and started shooting. Two men were killed, two others were wounded.

The suspect drove away. The men who died have been identified only as a 23-year-old and a 37-year-old. A 34-year-old man and a 19-year-old are listed in serious condition. Police said about two hours after the shooting the suspect went to a Detroit Fire Engine Station and said he was connected to the shooting.

Fire officials contacted police, but were told because area patrol units were busy "handling high priority runs, no units were dispatched to the location." During the delay, the suspect left the fire station and went to the 10th Police Precinct, where he was taken into custody.

I'm confused. Why do you go to a fire station to turn yourself in?

Godbee has to go. I know Evans had to the heat for that little girl being killed. But crime was down significantly and you didn't hear about stupidity like this.

If money is short, resources will be short. The PD may be imcompetant, but its just as likely that they are understaff.

Lesson: When times economic times are good, continue to use your resources efficiently. Or when times are tough, you'll have to cut officers instead of fat.

A convenient excuse for incompetence. What exactly was going on in the city of Detroit last night that they couldn't afford to send one single car over to the fire station, slap handcuffs on this guy and drive him to the precinct? We're not talking a jaywalker or a purse snatcher either, this is a murder suspect. If he doesn't warrant priority then they are completely useless right now. The city might as well cut the entire police budget and use that to pay off some debt.

Why didn't he just go to the newly refurbished 60 million dollar police headquarters and turn himself in?

The whole department is not a joke....the administration, commanders, chiefs, mayor and council are a joke. The men and women who are WORKING in those cars and WORKING a beat downtown or wherever, are taking orders from those who are bosses. Police officers can't just go where they want to go, do what they want to do, drive from one end of the city to another. They have specific areas to cover per ORDERS.

If you want to speak bad about the Department, start with the fat at the top, please.

Mayberry solved this problem by giving Otis the key to his own jail cell.

A comment could be made about the officers who, once the residency restrictions were removed, bolted for the suburbs.

That's really getting old. The blame for the lack of response time falls squarely on the shoulders of those in the DPD department who are mismanaging, spending foolishly, getting paid to wear a braided hat and look good, while the actual working cop gets the grief from people who are fed up.
