Default Grandmother robbed at Motor City Casino...

Just another reason why I no longer gamble....

    Article headline:
Grandma injured in attempted purse theft near MotorCity Casino

...The 64-year-old fought back. She gripped her purse even tighter and refused to let it go.

"We're not sure how much money she had, but ... she was all scrapped up. Her index finger was [[broken), and they still didn't get her purse," Davis said.

"She crawled [[to) where our cousin works, which is at the NSO. He works there, so she made her way there to him, and they called the ambulance."

"Both her eyes, they're black, they're shut. Skin missing off her forehead. She was beat so bad in her face and in her head that she had a brain contusion. Now she has bleeding on her brain. She has lost her memory. She does not remember her grand kids. She just knows the names, she don't know our faces."

"Just another reason why I no longer gamble...."

So if she was robbed at a grocery store, would you no longer go grocery shopping? Or no longer get gas if it were a gas station robbery? Specious reasoning my friend.

Ummm, I was speaking rhetorically! Duh!? When I was gambling nothing stopped me!! I was there in the wee odd hours with the rest of the crowd, anytime I could I went, until I had enough, and finally broke the addiction [[3 yrs gambling free). Now that I don't gamble this is but 'another' reason not too [[I repeat), but not the primary one to clarify things. OK?

More to the point, I thought these places were suppose to be safe? Or at least safer. When I was in the 'casino life' I usually felt relatively safe all hours within the joints.

Though the very few times I won even just $150 or $200 I always had security watch me walk to my car, which is a service all the casinos can provide if you ASK.

These criminals are starting to pick people off who they can, after they leave the casinos and Motor City has had problems before including a murder nearby last year.

I suppose the once common peripheral policing around these places is eroding. Who observed the woman 'crawling' to NSO at least tree long blocks away [[on Bagley street)? Casinos cater to elders [[a demographic not to be ignored), especially the first of the month, when they run their food [[comp) specials... Sad, sad story.

Crime has always been high over there. It's the corridor...

Grand River always seems to have foot traffic, day and night, with shady lookers. But the only places open after dark in the vicinity are tv's bar, a liquor store, and a coney island nw of trumbull.

The trumbull side of motorcity is somewhat safer. North Corktown is the bordering neighborhood, and there is cab and bike traffic riding by the casino all hours of the day and night, as well as traffic heading for the I75/ I96 interchange.

I ride by and through the casino campus pretty regular. I don't think you could get away with this type of crime if it was committed between the buildings. Lots of security driving and staff standing around.

To punch an old lady in the face, just, wow. I'm sorry.

The thread title here and the Fox story title don't jive. One gives the impression that it happened on the casino grounds [[at Motor City Casino), while the other is vague [[near MotorCity Casino). The NSO that Fox says she crawled to is probably the office at Charlotte and Third, which is across Grand River and across the Lodge Fwy from Motor City and a pretty dicey area. Regardless of where the brutal attack occurred, it shouldn't happen to anyone. However, to imply that this was a breech of Motor City's security is a stretch.

Or it was NSO's corporate office on Bagley? The article is vague in as it does not say for certain if the beating/ robbery occurred on the Casino property of off... was she followed from there? Going to her car? You make some good points.

I considered that, but it is almost a mile straight down Grand River from the Motor City, whereas the one at Third St is about .3 mile according to Google.

The Fox story also says it happened Friday morning. Is that 1am, 7am, 11am? I'm not looking to blame the victim, but anybody walking in that area, whether coming from the casino or not, and especially at night, is going to be a target.

Yes, I did some volunteer work for NSO years ago. The Bagley office runs during business hours. The other site has direct client contact and may have other hours. So much is missing from this story... I am looking to find out more. The Bagley location is too far as you state...

If she was actually a patron of the casino it would not too odd to find older women alone, women of all ages alone. When I was gambling I sometimes stayed until 3 - 4 am. You saw others out that late too - alone. Time flies when you're having fun... But what happens when you are out of the casino, well that's another thing...

Agree that it's messed up that this happened at all.
And also, big difference between "at" Motor City Casino vs. "near" Motor City Casino. Big, big difference.
