Default Tim Horton's on 7 Mile and Evergreen

I was in there today. That place has bulletproof glass. It's the only Tim's I've ever seen that was glassed in. The location on East Jefferson doesn't have it, the manager is always out front, he's friendly and engaging, the two locations on Eight Mile don't either. I don't like businesses with bulletproof glass, it makes me uneasy, if someone comes in and robs the place the customers are left exposed. Also, their selection of donuts and muffins wasn't very good.

That's too bad. I'm assuming the one on Wyoming will be the same.

I absolutely refuse to patronize any

Fast food joints with bullet proof glass.

    Banks with ridiculous metal detectors.

Retailers [[other than clubs like Costco) who ask to check my receipt.

I'm not a criminal and I'll be damned if I'll give you money to be treated like one.

I'm curious. Why do you let Costco off the hook?

It's a condition of membership and already spelled out when you sign up.

Meijer and Wal_Mart have no such prerequisites to be in their store.

Hmmm, I am not a fan of TH and well 'bullet proof' glass. No, I will not be going to or setting sipping coffee or tea in that one.

Add to that the joy that some stores in the city that make you leave your bags with purchase from elsewhere at the front 'security' area while you shop. I usually talk the security guards out of that one!

I'm not LEAVING my packages so someone else shopping can 'claim' them or the guard accidentally give them to someone else. Nope.

Some college book stores do this. They say to keep students from stealing. All bags and back packs must be left on these shelves while you are there. Oh, my!

Then you might as well forget shopping or doing business anywhere within Detroit's city limits.

Don't blame the business owners or the insurance companies who's only purpose is to make a profit. Blame the city for not providing efficient services and its citizen who don't know how to act in public establishments.

I shop and bank just fine in the city without dealing with the shit I listed.

Businesses that treat me like an actual customer will get my money.

Those that treat me like a criminal will not.

    Simple as that.

As far as banks go, other than maybe downtown and at the CUFSC I'm not aware of any branches that DON'T make you go through a metal detector in the city.

Bank of America does not. Not even the one E. Jefferson near Connor does not. Most B o A's don't. The one the WSU/ Cultural Center [[Woodward and Mack) doesn't.

That's a point. With the higher percentage or robberies and thefts in Detroit some companies and business have had to respond...

Yeah most BOA don't have the obtrusive metal detectors and neither does Michigan First.

I had a savings account at what used to be National City on Livernois. The machine kept going off. It turned out to be my keys, and the teller through the intercom suggested I leave my keys in my car.

My account at NC was closed within the week.

Depends on the BofA location and how busy they are, the BofA on grand river and southfield has a metal detector, crazy one at a time doors and 3 armed security guards. I'am told it is like this because its a million dollar branch.

Oh-ok, well most BOA's don't, were most Comerica Banks do IMO. That GRiver Southfield is a dicey and then there's the Southfield and banks near freeways are targets for robberies and the fast get away!

I don't blame the businesses who have these kinds of protection. In most cases, I'm sure that their insurance companies require them to be installed. No, I don't like them, but I understand why they are there.

Every business owner, be it a bank, store, gas station or whatever, has to protect their merchandise, property and employees. Insurance auditors will come and view the property and make safety recommendations. If the owners do not follow the recommendations, the insurance companies can either refuse to insure them, or deny a claim that stems from the lack of one of those protections.

It is sad that the world has come to this, but it is a fact of life now.

Can you imagine anyone who lives around 7 mile & evergreen ordering a frosted double mocha cappuccino, or even a basic coffee for that matter? When I heard about that location for a Tim Hortons I was a little stumped. They sell fruit drinks/shakes right? Donuts & pastries also, but I can't imagine the demographic around that area wanting to frequent a Tim Hortons.

Yes I can imagine it...people in that "demographic" drink coffee and eat donuts and pastries too....don't they? Why can't you imagine it?

    Interesting.

Yeah, I don't have an account B of A [[I did, but I took all of my money out). I mostly bank with Comerica now [[yeah, I know about the move to Dallas, long story).

But part of the reason they may not have the metal detectors is because unlike Chase and Comerica, B of A branches are essentially skeletons. The newer ones that are built may have one or two teller windows and one or two personal bankers/loan officers on site at the most. They've been aggressively shifting everything about traditonal banking towards the ATM and online banking.

As far as Michigan First, there are only two or three branches in the city, all of which are downtown [[New Center Area and WSU).

    Wyoming and Seven Mile actually.

    And this board sometimes...

This thread actually has posters stating Detroit residents [[just black people if that's what you mean) don't consume coffee or donuts.

In the other thread I get shit on for suggesting that Tim Hortons has an upscale image now that they seem to be expanding in the city.

I don't blame them. College bookstores rob people everyday! Lets see buy a book for $125, sell it back for $15, come back in a month and they are selling your old used one for $100!

Having you leave the bookbag in the front is like casinos, the house gets the best odds!

Univ. of Michigan bookstores and other bookstores on campus were doing it back in the "stone age" when I was a grad student there. The average book then was $50.00 I'm sure by now the average is about $100.00.

I've had my receipt checked at the Walmart on Gratiot in Roseville before. I don't know how often they do it.
