    Default Current Downtown/Midtown Population Estimates?

Are there any up to date population estimates for the Downtown/Midtown areas as of 2012. I suppose we could also throw Corktown, Eastern Market, Lafayette Park, Woodbridge, and New Center into this equation since companies are also giving incentives if you live in these neighborhoods bordering downtown.

I would contact Data Driven Detroit. They know everything about Detroit stat-wise.

Downtown and Midtown combined had a population of 19,837 at the 2010 Census. My guess is that the current population isn't much higher than 20,000.

I don't know of much residential development in the area surrounding it either. It would not surprise me if Corktown and Lafayette Park have shrunk. Many of the Lafayette properties are either in trouble or not desirable [[I have heard that the MLK townhouses are just crime-ridden). Corktown, particularly the part N of I-75 seems to show a lot more blight than it used to have.

I think it is in flux but the core jpbollma describes has to be increasing. Add to that there is a lot of new units set to come on line. I just drove by the very large development just east of the Motorcity Casino. The Broderick, which I have heard is 80% leased, is very close to opening. Then there is the Auburn [I believe that is the name] on Cass that is moving to completion.

On the surface the Woodward spine is very busy. A large part of that is that midtown to downtown Detroit is now hip/acceptable and increasing numbers of people are gaining comfort and flocking there for the culture, activities and other attractions. It's part of a larger overall attitude change that has arrived.

All speculation. Only real data can answer the question.

I am surprised to hear the Lafayette Park is crime ridden. I thought this was supposed to be a safer area of town. I know people who live at the Pavilion in Lafayette and love it!

Not all of Lafayette park is, but there are certain subdivisions/developments that are. A few of the larger buildings are also in foreclosure which suggests that they are not generating enough rent to keep them viable.

I had read about the two in foreclosure. The residents are not being displaced. Apparently the inside needs repairs and the government is stipulating these repairs as a term of resale.

As for the developments that have gone down hill...I certainly hope they can get that taken care of before it is too late. I really enjoy that area. It's nice and peaceful yet has the downtown view.

Would you pay rent in a building that needs a ton of repairs?

How about daily downtown workforce number? In the '90s I think it was estimated that something like 90,000 people a day came to the downtown area to work. Anyone know that number today?

This is currently growing at a rapid rate. I don't know exactly how many there are, but its more than were downtown 10 years ago.
