Default Wish List for Belle Isle

Let's make a "Wish List for Belle Isle."

Add only one item each. More than that gets confusing.

What is the one thing you would like to see on a refurbished and updated Belle Isle?

My one wish - a nice area for launching and retrieving kayaks with access to the Detroit River, complete with a well-landscaped parking area.

    Turf where paddock is.

[[Counting posts until somebody says "entry fee.")

Cafe, security, and bathroom station comparable to the River Front. More visible police patrolling on bicycle and segway.

Cleanliness and a more manicured look. Right now the place is just kinda rough looking.

Bring back the canoe & bike rentals

I'd rather use a tree or bush.

In regards to the paddock area, why don't they utilize numerous large concrete planters with trees that they could move to one side during the race week. While not perfect, at least it would break up the "parking lot" look.

what kind of security would it take to have "civilized" restrooms on the park grounds.. even the porta-potties are shabby..

Use the Riverwalk and Campus Martius as the benchmark. A little money goes a long way.

As a child I'd come to Detroit to visit family almost every summer. One of the the first things that caught my attention about Belle Isle[[and made me fall in love with the place)were the beautiful peacock's roaming around. I'd like to see the peacock's return.

P.S. I didn't know how to pick just one.Thank goodness Corktownyuppie covered most of what I'd like to see.

It does look like an aviation landing strip from the air... maybe some basketball hoops in the warm months and an ice rink in the winter months... until they figure out a better way...

    Yuck.

How about freeing the albino deer?!

I'd settle for permanent speed control patrols on the bridge and back by the Coast Guard station.

Down with any entrance fee! Only racist elitists clamor for such things.

    Cheers!

OK, maybe a vehicle fee, but not a general entrance charge. Determined by the dB, that would be decibel...a measure of sound pressure level. That way bicycles, wheelchairs, Segways, and electric cars get in free with the pedestrians...while noisemakers get penalized in advance. Put the microphones and cameras on the uphill part of the bridge, maybe with one of those speed detection devices. Heck, if they do it right it could be a one-stop revenue shop.

While we're at it...the 99-year lease should be to an entity like the nation of Jamaica so the island could be independent of Federal Oversight, except for the small coast guard station. Maybe better to give it back to the indigenous, a collective of all the Native American Nations. At least then the casino would get used well.
